Source text - English Dear all the women who ever existed over the entire span of human history,
I wish I could say I’m sorry. I wish I could apologise for everything you have been through. Starting with the woman whose heart was painted black with an apple in her hand. I want to scoop you all up and whisper it into your ears. I wish I was an enormous giant so I could gather you all together, hold you close to my Kilamanjaro of a bosom, and give you all your secrets back.
To those ancient girls who were born under stars and hidden in caves, and those women who were ordered to keep their goddesses quiet, or whose icons were stuffed away, their ancestral eternal flames stubbed out like cigarettes – I wish I could have tattooed your words on the hemisphere of my giant back to keep your libraries safe.
To the first slave women, whose bodies were used to bear children they never got to see, whose language was ripped from their lips, whose spells were stomped on.
To those taken from their warm homes and put on the backs of horses, forced onto ships and passed around like toys for grown men, whose skin was the wrong shade of culture, who fought till their nails bled – I wish I could have reached down with my arms thick as the Milky Way and pulled you from the pain.
Translation - Spanish Estimadas todas, mujeres que habéis existido a lo largo de la historia de la humanidad:
Ojalá pudiera deciros que lo siento. Ojalá pudiera pediros perdón por todo lo que habéis pasado, empezando por la mujer a la que acusaron de tener mal corazón mientras sostenía una manzana. Quiero auparos a todas y susurrároslo al oído. Ojalá fuera una enorme giganta para poder reuniros a todas, abrazaros contra mi pecho, como si fuera Kilimanjaro, y devolveros todos vuestros secretos.
A aquellas ancestrales niñas que nacieron bajo las estrellas y a las que escondieron en cuevas, a todas las mujeres a las que mandaron hacer callar a sus diosas, o cuyos iconos apartaron, cuyo fuego eterno apagaron como un cigarrillo: Ojalá me hubiera podido tatuar vuestras palabras en el hemisferio de mi espalda de giganta para mantener a salvo vuestras bibliotecas.

Source text - English Our understanding of past, present and future is closely linked to the way we organize and process information with electronic media and how we retrieve knowledge and meaning out of these processes.
In contemporary archival practices it is not just the individual data that are being stored in databases. The relationships and correlations between the various data are now also being stored, by using “Meta-Data.” Meta-Data (also known as “tags”) are data that describe and categorize other data. Meta-Data as means for ordering, hierarchizing, streamlining and evaluating have become increasingly important as social, political and economical instruments in an informational sphere that for a long time was considered as being value-free.
In various contemporary views “the archive” has proved to be a strong metaphor. The human body has become a genetic archive, now that it has been digitally opened up in the Human Genome Project. Our language is an archive of meanings that can be unlocked by philological methods. It teaches us who we are and where we come from. The unconscious is an archive of all the traumatic experiences that define our identity. History is a database from which facts can be arbitrarily retrieved, and now lacks one big unifying story.
Archives no longer just contain our past for inspection by historians and other researchers. We are permanently living in archives: All the sites we visit on the Internet are logged by our search engines and are monitored by mostly illegal spy bots who are installed in our machines without us knowing about it. All our shopping is registered by our supermarkets. On the basis of such archives the policies for the future are being planned. Behind almost every activity in the hard, material world nowadays hides an immaterial archive. We are living in the world’s online archive, or more to the point, we are living in the world-as-archive, as a constellation of databases all connected with each other by a global network of computers, the Internet.
Translation - Catalan La nostra comprensió del passat, del present i del futur està fortament lligada a la manera en què organitzem i processem informació amb mitjans electrònics i a com obtenim coneixements i significats a partir d'aquests processos.
Les pràctiques arxivístiques contemporànies no es limiten a emmagatzemar dades en bases de dades. Les relacions i correlacions que existeixen entre les diferents dades també s'emmagatzemen usant «metadades» —també anomenades «etiquetes»—, que són dades que descriuen i categoritzen altres dades. Com que són una forma d'ordenar, jerarquitzar, racionalitzar i avaluar, les metadades s'han anat convertint en instruments socials, polítics i econòmics cada vegada més importants en un àmbit de la informació que durant molt de temps es considerava que no tenia cap mena de valor.
Diverses expressions contemporànies han demostrat que «l'arxiu» és una poderosa metàfora. El cos humà s'ha convertit en un arxiu genètic, ara que s'ha obert digitalment al públic el Projecte Genoma Humà. La llengua és un arxiu de significats que es pot obrir per mitjà de mètodes filològics, ens ensenya qui som i d'on venim. L'inconscient és un arxiu de totes les experiències traumàtiques que defineixen la nostra identitat. La Història és una base de dades de la qual es poden recuperar fets de manera arbitrària, a la qual li falta una gran història unificadora.
Els arxius ja no sols contenen el nostre passat perquè l'estudiïn els historiadors i altres investigadors. Vivim en els arxius de manera permanent: els nostres cercadors emmagatzemen totes les pàgines que visitem en Internet mentre les controlen els spy bots que s'instal·len en els nostres ordinadors sense nosaltres saber-ho i que són majoritàriament il·legals. Els supermercats registren tot el que comprem i les polítiques del futur s'estan dissenyant a partir d'aquests arxius. Avui en dia, darrere de gairebé totes les activitats del món real i material s'amaga un arxiu immaterial. Vivim en l'arxiu en línia del món o, més aviat, vivim en el món com a arxiu, com a constel·lació de bases de dades interconnectades a través d'una xarxa global d'ordinadors: Internet.

I have been working in the field of translation and proofreading since 2004 with the combinations English (EN), Spanish (ES-ES), Catalan (CA-ES) and Valencian (CA-ES-valencia). I mainly translate audiovisual texts in the form of subtitles, dubbing-lip-synchronisation scripts and accessibility (subtitling for deaf and audio description for the blind), although I combine that with other text types (education, tourism, software or technical).
Change motivates me, so I've tasted the academia (where I still teach some modules at a degree and master's level), and in 2017 I co-founded a cultural bookshop in Alcoi (Alicante), Detroit Llibres, where I was in charge until 2020. That provided me with a deeper knowledge of the publishing sector both in Spanish and Catalan, in which I wouldn't mind starting as a translator.
