Translation - English What is the relationship between normal aging and Alzheimer's Disease?
Demographic studies on aging and cognition indicate that the deterioration of diverse cognitive domains is examined several years before the clinical diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease. The cognitive dysfunction examined does not differentiate from that which accompanies normal aging, indicating continuity rather than discontinuity in the increase of normal aging to Preclinical Dementia. A symptom that is always present is global cognitive impairment that affects the memory and other aspects of cognitive functions (verbal capacity, ocular-spatial skills, attention and speed of perception). There exists an overlap in the cognitive functioning between normal aging and this stable phase, and there is little evidence that helps detect these changes in clinical visits. A person with symptoms of Alzheimer's has 30% more of a possibility of presenting clinical symptoms of Dementia if at the same time, they have symptoms of vascular disease.
