A few weeks Jul 6, 2020

I have several jobs lined up at the end of this month, which allows me to enjoy a few days "sort of" off this week. I am always available for a few regular clients who send me work every week, but can look forward to a few relaxing days now.

March and April were slow, May almost back to normal with some new clients too, June slower than ever, nothing so far in July.

It's not always like that, but it happens. Usually, my visibility rarely exceeds a few days.
The main thing is that my bookings are ahead of the current time, all the time.

A couple of months Jul 6, 2020

I must confess that I haven’t been booked very often in advance in over 30 years working as a translator but it just happens that last week a good new client booked me for a project due to start around the 17th September. I’ll be extremely busy until the end of this month, but for the moment I have nothing scheduled for August and I do need a few days off as June was also hectic(to compensate a very slow May)…

My schedule is usually pretty much full all the time nowadays. Between my revision (or proofing, if you prefer) work for universities and related research institutions, the permanently ongoing translation of software strings from my main client, and the occasional sudden requests from my other direct clients, I rarely have a gap when I don't have something to do. And when I do, there's always admin…

So, any potential new clients would have to accept flexible/relaxed deadlines if they wanted to engage my services.

As usual, it depends... Jul 6, 2020

This answer depends on how I understand being booked.

For regular and some occasional clients, I'm usually booked for some days (2, 3, maybe 4). Right now, as it often happens on Monday mornings, I'm not booked at all with them.

But two of my clients have daily new content to translate/proofread. For these clients, I can say I'm virtually always booked. To avoid any overloads or crazy moments, I reserve some hours everyday for these clients so I have - or try to have -

At least one-two years Jul 6, 2020

My shortest contract covers at least 16 months, so I will be booked right till the end of this macarono 'quarreltine', habitually having several options to consider.

Nothing out of the common though.

Planned but not exactly booked Jul 6, 2020

As usual, I can expect to spend a certain amount of time every week on regular clients. But specific projects won't be planned until a few days before they're ready. For the second half of this year, I expect to be busy for every Monday and the majority of my working days. And I can fill the rest of the time with my own projects.

A few days Jul 8, 2020

My best client has been talking about a job that should start tomorrow for the past week. Not confirmed, yet, but they warned me to book the rest of the week.
