Good afternoon everybody
It is the first time that I have posted something here, so I do apologize if the topic has been discussed before.

Good afternoon everybody
It is the first time that I have posted something here, so I do apologize if the topic has been discussed before.
I have a simple question actually, I have a MA in conference interpreting (Italian University) with main language combination ENIT. I have also worked in the past 2 years as healthcare interpreter in Italy, both in the public and private sector.
Would my MA and my experience be enough to entitle to work as healthcare interpreter in the UK or do I absolutely need the level 6 DPSI - health?

Thanks a lot for your time and consideration.
I hope to get to know many of you in the next months!
Serena

Do you really want to May 21, 2020

work in the health sector in UK now when the goverment is more concerned about spin than making sure that health professionals are protected from infection?

You'll be almost safer working as interpreter for a war reporter ...

Planning for the future May 27, 2020

I see what you mean.. However, I am not planning on moving there soon. In fact, I am thinking ahead and trying to gather all necessary info before deciding what to do next year. That's why I'd like to know if the Certificate if an absolute must or not.

Your MA and Experience as Medical Interpreter count! May 24, 2021

Hi

Certainly, your experiences and your academic studies will be enough, you might need to take some short-term courses to become familiar with the system in the UK. However, working for healthcare does not require a DPSI but a Level 3 Community Interpreting Qualifications.
I hope that helps a bit.
