Source text - English Coming back to retranslation, a new translation of the same literary work
can indicate historical, social and cultural changes in the target culture that
lead to the need for a new version. Venuti (2004: 36) argues that translation
can also produce the opposite impact on the target culture system;
they can produce changes in literary conceptions:
Retranslations reflect changes in the values and institutions of the translating culture,
but they can also produce such changes by inspiring new ways of reading and
appreciating foreign texts. To study retranslations is to realize that translating can’t
be viewed as a simple act of communication because it creates values in social formations
at specific historical moments, and these values redefine the foreign text and
culture from moment to moment.
Due to this fact, I would argue that the relationship between the original
source text and its different translations into a specific language through
time is a reciprocal, almost circular and truly complex one. Between these
texts there is an interrelation that cannot be considered to be straight,
linear or one-directional. More precisely, there is a circular relationship
between the original and translated text, where multiple actors, situations
and contexts are involved. This fact leads to a systemic approach towards
the phenomenon of retranslation, just as writers, translators and publishers
are part of a complex system and the decisions made concerning the
translation process, and the final translation itself can be related to different
aspects, whether they be individual or contextual ones.
‘Systems’, as defined initially by Bertalanffy (1969: 33, 38) in his General
System Theory (GST), are ‘complexes [or sets] of elements standing in
interaction’. He understands science as:
the investigation of organized wholes of many variables [that] requires new categories
of interaction, transaction, organization, teleology, and so forth, with many problems
arising for epistemology, mathematical models and techniques. (Bertalanffy,
1972: 432)
This approach is opposed to analytical research in the classical sense whose
methodology is based on breaking things down into components and
discovering one-way or linear causality (ibid.: 423). He also argues that
science should not be subdivided (e.g. natural, social or human science),
since all fields are somehow in interaction with each other. This is actually
a mostly contemporary claim whereby interdisciplinary research is seen
to be more and more necessary. Bertalanffy applied his system theory
to organismic systems of biology in order to compare it with classical
closed systems of conventional physics (Ryan, 2008: 6), but he also saw its
application to other areas of science, especially social science in a broader
sense including sociology, economics, politic science, psychology, cultural
studies, linguistics, history and humanities etc. (Bertalanffy, 1969).
System Theory supposes a ‘re-orientation of thought and world view’, ‘a
new scientific paradigm (in contrast to the analytic, mechanistic, linearcausal
paradigm of classical science’ (Bertalanffy, 1972: 421). According
to the scholar:
It seems, therefore, that a general theory of systems would be a useful tool providing,
on the one hand, models that can be used in, and transferred to, different fields, and
safeguarding, on the other hand, from vague analogies which often have marred the
progress in these fields. (Bertalanffy, 1969: 34)
Another important point in Bertalanffy’s system theory is the conception
of open systems amplifying his basic definition as ‘sets of elements standing
in interaction’ (1969: 38) to ‘a system in exchange of matter with its environment
presenting import and export, building-up and breaking-down
of its material components’ (ibid.: 141). Thus, a system is:
more than just a set of components and their relationships – it is a complex whole
that affects and is affected by its environment. Further, a system has a boundary that
prevents it from becoming mixed with its environment. The implication of the environment
is that a system must always be understood in context. (Ryan, 2008: 6–7) .Systemic approaches are by
no means new in Translation Studies. In addition
to the aforementioned polysystem theory, authors such as Hermans
(1999) or Poltermann (1995) base their reflections on Luhmann’s (1984)
Social System Theory and consider that literary translation is a differentiated
system within a complex social system with various subsystems.
According to Luhmann (ibid.: 240), social systems consist of communication,
understanding communication as a synthesis of mainly three parts
resulting from human selection: information, message and understanding.
Communication is only complete when understanding exists (ibid.: 203).
Sociology cannot be understood without communication, its methodology
is based on it, yet it does not analyse chemical, neurophysiological
or mental processes; it analyses communication (ibid.: 226). This point
of Luhmann’s theory has been used as a connecting point to Translation
Studies. Hermanns (1999: 142) applies Luhmann’s view of social systems
regarding translations as ‘constituting a functional system’ whereby its
primary function consists of ‘producing representations of anterior discourses
across semiotic boundaries, and typically that representations can
be taken as re-enacting anterior discourses’. Considering translation as a
differentiated system within the literary target system, it is based on communication
on various levels: between source and target culture, between
author and translator, between translator and reader, between the two
languages in contact, etc.
This is indeed a possible aspect that can be applied in Translation
Studies, but I would like to go further following Bertalanffy’s system concept
in order to understand the retranslation phenomenon. Translators
have often been considered to be solely responsible for their translations.
This means that translations are the intellectual result of a translator’s decisions,
individual style and rewriting mechanisms. This is indeed true as the
translation process is usually an intimate situation where the translator is
working alone and his/her personal interpretation of the source text is
transmitted through the target text. On the other hand, translators are not
solitary human beings without any contact with their environment. They
are living in a specific time where social events, current politics, aesthetic
and literary movements or preferences dominate individual taste and publishing
policies. Applying Bertalanffy’s system theory, the translator and
the translated text itself should not be considered merely a system within
a greater literary system, but rather a whole in exchange with its environment,
including all possible boundaries with its immediate and historical
context. Studying retranslations in different periods makes it possible to
discover how aesthetic questions and translation strategies change over time
in keeping with evolutions in the ‘environment’. Moreover, comparison
of retranslations of the same work can reveal different types of manipulation
due to the social and historical context. As they are ‘like any system
in exchange of matter with its environment presenting import and export’
(Bertalanffy, 1969: 141), new translations can be motivated by commercial
decisions made by publishers (anniversaries, literary awards, new considerations
of a particular author etc.), but also by social, cultural, historical and
even political changes in the target culture. Writers, translators and editors
are within ‘a complex whole that affects and is affected by its environment’
(Ryan, 2008: 6), so that decisions made concerning the translation process
and the final translation can be related to multiple aspects. Looking at
translation from the systemic point of view demonstrates that translation
can have enormous power over the reception, appreciation and the image
of authors, their work and even their culture. In the different chapters of
the present volume, the authors will offer concrete examples of the crucial
role played by translation in literary reception by analysing the variou

با توجه به این واقعیت من استدلال می کنم رابطه بین منبع متن اصلی و ترجمه های مختلط ان به یک زبان از طریق یک تقارن تقریبا دایره ای و پیچیده صورت می گیرد.بین این متون رابطه ای وجود دارد که نمی توان ان را خط مستقیم یا یک جهت دانست.
به طور دقیق تر یک رابطه دایره ای بین متن اصلی و ترجمه وجود دارد که در ان وضعیت های چندین بازیگر و مفهوم را دربرمیگیرد.این واقعیت منجر به یک رویکرد سیستماتیک نسبت به پدیده ترجمه می شود همانطور که مترجمین و ناشران بخشی از یک سیستم پیچیده هستند و تصمیمات مربوط به فرایند ترجمه و خود ترجمه نهایی می تواند به جنبه های مختلف یا اینکه ایا انها فردی یا متنی هستند مرتبط شوند.
سیتم هایی که درابتدا توسط برتالنفی (38/33/1969) درنظر گرفته شدند در نظریه سیستم کلی خود(GST) مجموعه ها {یا مجموعه ای }عناصرایستاده در تعامل است.اوعلم را درک میکند:تحقیق درباره مجموعه های سازمان دهی شده از بسیاری از متغیرها {ان} نیازمند لیستهای جدیدی از سازمان تعامل ,طلوعی و غیره است که با مشکلات فراوانی در زمینه معرفتشناسی ,مدلهای ریاضی و تکنیکها به وجود می اید.
این رویکرد مخالف تحقیقات تحلیلی در معنا کلاسیک است که متدولوزی برمبنای شکستن چیزها به اجزا وکشف را یا یک علت خطی است.همچنین استدلال میکند که علم نباید تقسیم شود (عام طبیعی/اجتماعی یا علوم انسانی)از انجا که همه زمینه ها به نحوی در تعامل با یکدیگر هستند.
این در واقع یک ادعای عمدتا مدرن است که به موجب ان تحقیقات بین رشته ای بیشترو بیشتر موردنیاز است. تئوری سیستم خود را به سیستمدهای زیست شناسی ارگانیسم برای مقایسه ان با سیستم های بسته شده کلاسیک از فیزیک متعارف اعمال کرد.اما او همچنین ان را در زمینه های دیگر علوم به خصوص علوم اجتماعی به معنای وسیع تر از جمله جامعه شناسی /اقتصاد/علم سیاست/روانشناسی /مطالعات فرهنگی/زبان شناسی /تاریخ و علوم انسانی و غیره را مشاهده کرد.
تئوری سیستم فرض میکند که تغییر جهت اندیشه و دیدگاه جهانی یک نمونه علمی جدید (برخلاف نمونه تحلیلی/مکانیکی/ علمی خطی علم کلاسیک)است.
به گفته پزوهشگر:به نظر می رسد که نظریه کلی سیستم ها یک ابزار مفید است.که از یک طرف میتواند مدل هایی را که می توانند از زمینه های مختلف مورد استفاده قراربگیرد را به انها منتقل کند و از سوی دیگر از تقابل های مبهم که اغلب به پیشرفت در این زمینه ها اسیب رسانده اند محافظت کند.
یکی دیگر از نکات مهم در نظریه سیستم برتالنفی مفهوم سیستم های بازاست که تعریف پایه ای خود را به عنوان مجموعه ای از عناصر ایستاده در تعامل با یک سیستم در مقابل ماده با محیط خود ارائه صادرات و واردات /ساخت و شکستن اجزای مواد ان است .
بنابراین یک سیستم:
بیش از اجزای یک مجموعه و ارتباط انها پیچیده است که توسط محیط ان تحت تاثیر قرار می گیرد.علاوه بر این یک سیستم دارای مرز است که مانع از مخلوط شدن ان را محیط می شود.مفاهیم محیطی این است که سیستم همیشه باید در زمینه درک شود.
رویکردهای سیستماتیک در مطالعات ترجمه به هیچ وجه جدید نمی باشد.نوشتارهایی مانند هارمن(1999)وپلترمن(1995) بازتابهای خود را در نظریه سیستم اجتماعی لومان(1984)در نظر دارند که ترجمه ادبی یک سیستم متمایز دریک سیستم اجتماعی پیچیده با زیر سیستم های مختلف است .به گفته لومان سیستم های اجتماعی شامل ارتباطات درک ارتباطات به عنوان یک سنتز به طور عمده به سه بخش که نتیجه انتخاب انسان است:اطلاعات/پیام و درک تقسیم می گردد.ارتباط تنها هنگامی که درک وجود دارد برقراراست.جامعه شناسی نمی تواند بدون ارتباطات درک شود متدولوزی برمبنای ان پایه گذاری شده است اما در عین حال پروسه های شیمیایی/عصبی/فیزیولوزیکی یا روحی را تحلیل نمی کند بلکه ارتباطات را تجزیه وتحلیل میکند این نقطه ازنظرلومان نقطه اتصال به مطالعات ترجمه است.هرماننز(1999:142)دیدلومان را ازسیستمهای اجتماعی درمورد ترجمه به عنوان(تشکیل یک سیستم کاربردی)اعمال میکند که ازطریق ان نمایندگی های تولید گفتمان قرون وسطی درمرزهای نشانه شناسی است ونمونه ای است که نمایندگی ها را می توان به عنوان گفتگوهای قومی ترتیب داد.
با توجه به ترجمه به عنوان یک سیستم در سیستم ادبی هدف براساس ارتباطات در سطوح مختلف است:بین زبان مبدا ومقصد/بین نویسنده ومترجم/مترجم و خواننده/ بین دو زبان درارتباط و غیره این درواقع یک زمینه امکان پذیر است که می تواند در مطالعات ترجمه مورد استفاده قراربگیرد.اما من مایلم بیشتر به دنبال مفهوم سیستم برتالنفی به منظور درک پدیده ترجمه باشم .مترجمان اغلی به عنوان تنها مسئول ترجمه هایشان محسوب می شوند.این به این معنی است که ترجمه ها نتیجه دلخواه تصمیمات مترجم سبک فردی و مکانیسم های بازنویسی است.این در واقع درست است زیرا فرایند ترجمه معمولا یک وضعیت خودمانی است که مترجم به تنهایی کارمی کند و تغییر شخصی از متن منبع ازطریق متن زبان مقصد منتقل می شود.از سوی دیگر مترجمان انسان های منزوی که هیچ گونه ارتباطی با محیطشان ندارند نیستند.انها در یک زمان خاص زندگی می کنند که رویدادهای اجتماعی /سیاست های فعلی/جنبش های ادبی و زیباشناختی و یا ترجیحات برسلیقه فردی و سیاست های نشرکردن تسلط دارند.استفاده از نظریه سیستم برتالنفی مترجم و متن ترجمه شده نباید مطرح شوند صرفا به صورت یک سیستم در یک سیستم ادبی بزرگتر بلکه یک کل درعوض محیط ان ازجمله همه ی مرزهای ممکن با زمینه فوری و تاریخی مطالعه انتقالات در دوره های مختلف موجب می شود که چگونه سوالات زیبایی شناختی را کشف کنیم و استراتزی های ترجمه در طول زمان با توجه به حفظ سیرتکامل در محیط تغییر می کننند.
علاوه براین مقایسه مجدد از همان کار می تواند انواع مختلف دستکاری را به دلیل زمینه اجتماعی و تاریخی نشان دهد همانطور که انها "مانند هر سیستم در مقابل ماده یا محیطی که واردات و صادرات را عرضه می کند. هستند ترجمه های جدید می توانند توسط تصمیمات تجاری ناشران سالگرد/جوایز ادبی /ملاحظات جدید/یک نویسنده خاص و غیره و همچنین توسط اجتماع /تغییرات فرهنگی /تغییرات فرهنگی/ تاریخی و حتی سیاسی در فرهنگ مقصد.
نویسندگان /مترجمان/و سر دبیران در "جامع پیچیده ای هستند که تحت تاثیرمحیط ان قرار می گیرند و به این ترتیب تصمیمات مربوط به فرایند ترجمه و ترجمه نهایی می تواند به چند جنبه مرتبط باشد. نگاهی به ترجمه از نقطه نظر سیستماتیک نشان می دهد که ترجمه می تواند قدرت فراوانی را برای پذیرش/قدردانی و تصویر نویسندگان/ کار و حتی فرهنگ انها داشته باشد.
در فصل های مختلف جلد حاضر نویسندگان نمونه های بنیادی از نقش حیاتی را که توسط ترجمه در پذیرش ادبی توسط تجزیه و تحلیل انتقادات مختلف از دیدگاه متنی و سیستمیک انجام می شود ارائه می دهند.

این رویکرد مخالف تحقیقات تحلیلی در معنا کلاسیک است که متدولوزی برمبنای شکستن چیزها به اجزا وکشف را یا یک علت خطی است.همچنین استدلال میکند که علم نباید تقسیم شود (عام طبیعی/اجتماعی یا علوم انسانی)از انجا که همه زمینه ها به نحوی در تعامل با یکدیگر هستند.
این در واقع یک ادعای عمدتا مدرن است که به موجب ان تحقیقات بین رشته ای بیشترو بیشتر موردنیاز است. تئوری سیستم خود را به سیستمدهای زیست شناسی ارگانیسم برای مقایسه ان با سیستم های بسته شده کلاسیک از فیزیک متعارف اعمال کرد.اما او همچنین ان را در زمینه های دیگر علوم به خصوص علوم اجتماعی به معنای وسیع تر از جمله جامعه شناسی /اقتصاد/علم سیاست/روانشناسی /مطالعات فرهنگی/زبان شناسی /تاریخ و علوم انسانی و غیره را مشاهده کرد.
تئوری سیستم فرض میکند که تغییر جهت اندیشه و دیدگاه جهانی یک نمونه علمی جدید (برخلاف نمونه تحلیلی/مکانیکی/ علمی خطی علم کلاسیک)است.
به گفته پزوهشگر:به نظر می رسد که نظریه کلی سیستم ها یک ابزار مفید است.که از یک طرف میتواند مدل هایی را که می توانند از زمینه های مختلف مورد استفاده قراربگیرد را به انها منتقل کند و از سوی دیگر از تقابل های مبهم که اغلب به پیشرفت در این زمینه ها اسیب رسانده اند محافظت کند.
یکی دیگر از نکات مهم در نظریه سیستم برتالنفی مفهوم سیستم های بازاست که تعریف پایه ای خود را به عنوان مجموعه ای از عناصر ایستاده در تعامل با یک سیستم در مقابل ماده با محیط خود ارائه صادرات و واردات /ساخت و شکستن اجزای مواد ان است .
بنابراین یک سیستم:
بیش از اجزای یک مجموعه و ارتباط انها پیچیده است که توسط محیط ان تحت تاثیر قرار می گیرد.علاوه بر این یک سیستم دارای مرز است که مانع از مخلوط شدن ان را محیط می شود.مفاهیم محیطی این است که سیستم همیشه باید در زمینه درک شود.
رویکردهای سیستماتیک در مطالعات ترجمه به هیچ وجه جدید نمی باشد.نوشتارهایی مانند هارمن(1999)وپلترمن(1995) بازتابهای خود را در نظریه سیستم اجتماعی لومان(1984)در نظر دارند که ترجمه ادبی یک سیستم متمایز دریک سیستم اجتماعی پیچیده با زیر سیستم های مختلف است .به گفته لومان سیستم های اجتماعی شامل ارتباطات درک ارتباطات به عنوان یک سنتز به طور عمده به سه بخش که نتیجه انتخاب انسان است:اطلاعات/پیام و درک تقسیم می گردد.ارتباط تنها هنگامی که درک وجود دارد برقراراست.جامعه شناسی نمی تواند بدون ارتباطات درک شود متدولوزی برمبنای ان پایه گذاری شده است اما در عین حال پروسه های شیمیایی/عصبی/فیزیولوزیکی یا روحی را تحلیل نمی کند بلکه ارتباطات را تجزیه وتحلیل میکند این نقطه ازنظرلومان نقطه اتصال به مطالعات ترجمه است.هرماننز(1999:142)دیدلومان را ازسیستمهای اجتماعی درمورد ترجمه به عنوان(تشکیل یک سیستم کاربردی)اعمال میکند که ازطریق ان نمایندگی های تولید گفتمان قرون وسطی درمرزهای نشانه شناسی است ونمونه ای است که نمایندگی ها را می توان به عنوان گفتگوهای قومی ترتیب داد.
با توجه به ترجمه به عنوان یک سیستم در سیستم ادبی هدف براساس ارتباطات در سطوح مختلف است:بین زبان مبدا ومقصد/بین نویسنده ومترجم/مترجم و خواننده/ بین دو زبان درارتباط و غیره این درواقع یک زمینه امکان پذیر است که می تواند در مطالعات ترجمه مورد استفاده قراربگیرد.اما من مایلم بیشتر به دنبال مفهوم سیستم برتالنفی به منظور درک پدیده ترجمه باشم .مترجمان اغلی به عنوان تنها مسئول ترجمه هایشان محسوب می شوند.این به این معنی است که ترجمه ها نتیجه دلخواه تصمیمات مترجم سبک فردی و مکانیسم های بازنویسی است.این در واقع درست است زیرا فرایند ترجمه معمولا یک وضعیت خودمانی است که مترجم به تنهایی کارمی کند و تغییر شخصی از متن منبع ازطریق متن زبان مقصد منتقل می شود.از سوی دیگر مترجمان انسان های منزوی که هیچ گونه ارتباطی با محیطشان ندارند نیستند.انها در یک زمان خاص زندگی می کنند که رویدادهای اجتماعی /سیاست های فعلی/جنبش های ادبی و زیباشناختی و یا ترجیحات برسلیقه فردی و سیاست های نشرکردن تسلط دارند.استفاده از نظریه سیستم برتالنفی مترجم و متن ترجمه شده نباید مطرح شوند صرفا به صورت یک سیستم در یک سیستم ادبی بزرگتر بلکه یک کل درعوض محیط ان ازجمله همه ی مرزهای ممکن با زمینه فوری و تاریخی مطالعه انتقالات در دوره های مختلف موجب می شود که چگونه سوالات زیبایی شناختی را کشف کنیم و استراتزی های ترجمه در طول زمان با توجه به حفظ سیرتکامل در محیط تغییر می کننند.
علاوه براین مقایسه مجدد از همان کار می تواند انواع مختلف دستکاری را به دلیل زمینه اجتماعی و تاریخی نشان دهد همانطور که انها "مانند هر سیستم در مقابل ماده یا محیطی که واردات و صادرات را عرضه می کند. هستند ترجمه های جدید می توانند توسط تصمیمات تجاری ناشران سالگرد/جوایز ادبی /ملاحظات جدید/یک نویسنده خاص و غیره و همچنین توسط اجتماع /تغییرات فرهنگی /تغییرات فرهنگی/ تاریخی و حتی سیاسی در فرهنگ مقصد.
نویسندگان /مترجمان/و سر دبیران در "جامع پیچیده ای هستند که تحت تاثیرمحیط ان قرار می گیرند و به این ترتیب تصمیمات مربوط به فرایند ترجمه و ترجمه نهایی می تواند به چند جنبه مرتبط باشد. نگاهی به ترجمه از نقطه نظر سیستماتیک نشان می دهد که ترجمه می تواند قدرت فراوانی را برای پذیرش/قدردانی و تصویر نویسندگان/ کار و حتی فرهنگ انها داشته باشد.
در فصل های مختلف جلد حاضر نویسندگان نمونه های بنیادی از نقش حیاتی را که توسط ترجمه در پذیرش ادبی توسط تجزیه و تحلیل انتقادات مختلف از دیدگاه متنی و سیستمیک انجام می شود ارائه می دهند.
