Mensagem da Administração
A Celbi é um daqueles projetos que desde a sua materialização em 1965, tem vindo a evoluir, a adaptar-se ao mercado, sempre cumprindo os mais elevados padrões éticos e económicos. Ao longo destes 50 anos muitas coisas aconteceram. Umas melhores outras menos boas. Mas a Celbi sempre resistiu.
Quando em 2006, a Altri decidiu apostar na sua aquisição, sabia da sua valia económica e social. Desde essa data, que mudámos o seu perfil, sem alterar a sua matriz, a sua genética e sua missão: ser a melhor produtora de pasta de papel da Europa. A Altri realizou, desde então, investimentos que se aproximam dos mil milhões de euros, tornando esta empresa uma das maiores do seu setor.
Em 2006, a Celbi produzia cerca de 300 mil toneladas de pasta de papel. No ano de 2014, a Celbi produziu cerca de 687 mil toneladas de pasta de papel. Estes números são tão, ou mais relevantes, se considerarmos que a quase totalidade da nossa produção se destina aos mercados externos e é encaminhada, na sua generalidade, através do Porto Comercial da Figueira da Foz, dinamizando esta estrutura e contribuindo para a sua sustentabilidade.
A Celbi é hoje um dos maiores exportadores nacionais e dos que maior valor acrescentado retém. Simultaneamente, e não obstante a globalização ter tornado as empresas mais centradas em si mesmas, a Celbi e as suas sucessivas equipas, souberam sempre - na medida das suas possibilidades - estar disponíveis para os seus trabalhadores, as suas famílias e a comunidade que a enquadra. Sabemos que os impactos de se ter uma empresa como a Celbi como vizinha, nem sempre foram todos bons. No entanto temos, ao longo dos anos, investido continuamente na redução desses impactos e temos conseguido uma evolução satisfatória. Ainda no final de 2014, encontramos uma solução que minora os impactos do movimento de camiões entre a fábrica e o porto. Milhares de camiões foram retirados das estradas, com uma redução significativa da pegada ecológica.
É também com satisfação que verificamos que a Celbi sempre viveu em paz social, mesmo nos períodos da história mais conturbados. Da mesma forma que, em permanente diálogo com a comunidade, sempre foi possível estabelecer pontes para a resolução das diversas questões que foram surgindo. Ao longo destes anos, milhares de trabalhadores deram, diariamente o seu melhor, equipas com elevado sentido de responsabilidade que souberam, e sabem, que o sucesso da Celbi será também o seu próprio sucesso.
A Celbi é hoje uma das maiores empresas da região Centro, uma referência a nível nacional e europeu. Queremos que assim continue e, da parte da Altri, tudo faremos para que este centro de excelência continue a crescer e a melhorar.

A Celbi
Constituída em 1965, a Celulose Beira Industrial (Celbi) S.A, sediada na Leirosa a 15km a sul da Figueira da Foz, tem como atividade principal a produção e comercialização de pasta de papel de fibra curta de elevada qualidade, a partir de Eucalipto, e à produção de energia elétrica (cogeração).
Pertencente ao grupo Altri desde Agosto de 2006, a Celbi é um dos mais eficientes produtores mundiais de pasta de eucalipto, tendo uma capacidade de produção instalada superior a 700 mil toneladas. Com 50 anos de existência, a Celbi é reconhecida no mercado pela elevada qualidade do seu produto que, aliada a um excelente serviço ao cliente, faz da empresa um produtor de referência no panorama europeu.
Tendo, desde o início da sua atividade, consciência do valor ambiental dos recursos naturais que explora e os impactos ambientais que provoca, a Celbi foi a primeira na Europa, do seu setor de atividade, a receber a certificação do seu Sistema de Gestão da Energia em conformidade com a Norma ISO 50001.

História
1962
A empresa sueca Billerud AB inicia as atividades florestais em Portugal.
1965
É instalada em Portugal, a Celulose Billerud SARL que surgiu de uma iniciativa da empresa sueca, Billerud AB, associada a um dos maiores grupos industriais portugueses naquela época, a Companhia União Fabril (CUF). Os primeiros acionistas da Celbi foram a Billerud, com 71% do total do capital social, a CUF que participou com 23%, e um grupo de produtores florestais, que subscreveram 6%.
1968
Arranque da empresa com a produção de pasta solúvel, destinada à fabricação de fibras têxteis, com 80 000 toneladas como capacidade máxima. A decisão de produzir pasta solúvel viria a ser revista nos primeiros anos de produção e a unidade foi ajustada para produzir pasta papeleira com uma capacidade que, naquela data, atingia as 120 mil toneladas anuais.
1970 - A empresa alterou a sua designação social, passando a designar-se por Celulose Beira Industrial (Celbi), SARL.
1975
As nacionalizações transferiram as ações da CUF e dos pequenos acionistas para o Estado Português, que assumiria a sua titularidade através do IPE – Investimentos e Participações Empresariais, SA.
1984
Entretanto, na Suécia, diversas operações de concentração da indústria florestal fizeram com que o capital da Celbi passasse a ser detido pelo grupo sueco STORA.
1995
O Governo Português viria a alienar integralmente a sua participação na empresa, vendendo a sua parte à STORA CELL AB que, assim, passou a deter 100% do seu capital. A Celbi passou, então, a designar-se por Stora Celbi - Celulose Beira Industrial, SA.
1998
Fusão entre a Stora (Sueca) e a Enso (Finlandesa), dando origem ao grupo StoraEnso, um dos maiores grupos mundiais na área de transformação e comercialização de produtos de origem florestal. A Celbi retomou a sua denominação anterior: Celulose Beira Industrial (Celbi), SA.
2006
Em Julho, o grupo Altri anuncia ter celebrado um contrato promessa conducente à aquisição de 100% dos direitos de voto da Celbi, negócio que foi concluído em Agosto de 2006.
2007
Assinatura do Contrato de Investimento com a Associação Portuguesa de Investimento (API) destinado a aumentar a capacidade de produção de pasta de 300.000 para 550.000 toneladas por ano.
2013
Em Novembro, é assinado com a AICEP o Contrato de Investimento relativo ao projeto C15, visando o aumento da eficiência e da competitividade.
2014
A Celbi atinge um novo recorde de produção anual de 687 mil toneladas de pasta branqueada de eucalipto.

SUSTENTABILIDADE
A Altri foi nomeada na categoria "Sustentabilidade", pela revista “Logística Moderna” pela adoção de uma alternativa de transporte rodoviário mais eficiente e ambientalmente mais sustentável. A solução consiste no desenvolvimento de veículos de transporte de 25,25 metros, designados por gigaliners, e que passarão a fazer o transporte de pasta de papel entre a unidade da Altri na Leirosa (Celbi) e o Porto Marítimo da Figueira da Foz.
Projetos
C09
Com vista a uma modernização e a um aumento da capacidade da unidade fabril da Celbi, foi concretizado entre 2007 e 2010, o projeto C09 que consistiu na remodelação da sua linha de produção de pasta e na montagem de novas instalações na área de recuperação de químicos e produção de energia, permitindo duplicar a capacidade de produção da empresa.
O investimento visou a obtenção de uma fábrica ecologicamente equilibrada, com um desempenho ambiental e processual compatível com as “melhores técnicas disponíveis” definidas pela União Europeia, e em observância total da legislação nacional e comunitária.
Em simultâneo, a EDP – Produção Bioelétrica, S.A. construiu uma central termoelétrica a biomassa nas instalações fabris da Celbi. Esta nova unidade veio permitir a produção de energia elétrica a injetar na rede nacional a partir de recursos renováveis, nomeadamente biomassa florestal resultante da limpeza das matas e outra biomassa de origem vegetal.
Ao longo de 2 anos, estiveram envolvidas no projeto perto de 80 empresas externas, contratadas em diversas áreas de especialidade, que garantiram uma presença média mensal de 900 trabalhadores em atividade. Este facto revela bem a dimensão que o projeto assumiu e o seu impacto na economia local, tendo inclusivamente contemplado a total reformulação dos acessos rodoviários à fábrica.
C15
Com o sucesso do projeto anterior, a Celbi volta a investir mais 30 milhões de euros. Desta forma, foi implementado um novo projeto, denominado projeto C15, que visa um conjunto de intervenções, e algumas remodelações, em diversas áreas fabris que foram evidenciadas necessidades de desbloqueamento de capacidade, de forma a aumentar a eficiência e a competitividade da fábrica.
A sua implementação teve início em 2013 e teve a sua conclusão em Junho de 2015.
O GRUPO
Altri
A Altri é uma empresa de referência europeia na produção de pasta de eucalipto e na gestão florestal. A Altri está cotada na bolsa de valores de Lisboa, onde integra o seu principal índice, o PSI-20.
A Altri é um produtor europeu de referência no setor de pasta de papel, sendo um dos mais eficientes produtores da Europa de pasta de eucalipto branqueada.
Atualmente a Altri tem três fábricas de pasta de eucalipto branqueado – a Celbi, a Caima e a Celtejo – com uma capacidade anual nominal de cerca de 900 mil toneladas.
A gestão florestal é uma atividade central da Altri, que gere em Portugal cerca de 84 mil hectares de floresta certificada. A auto-suficiência florestal é da ordem dos 30%.
Para uma melhor gestão da floresta, a Altri adquiriu 50% da EDP Bioeléctrica para, em parceria com a Energias de Portugal (EDP), produzir energia eléctrica a partir de biomassa florestal. Atualmente esta empresa detém licenças para a produção de 120 MWh de energia eléctrica através de biomassa florestal, detendo uma quota de mercado de cerca de 50%, estando atualmente em operação quatro centrais - Mortágua, Ródão (Celtejo), Constância (Caima) e Figueira da Foz (Celbi) - com uma capacidade total de 55 MWh. Em 2009 foram inauguradas as duas centrais de biomassa - Figueira da Foz e Constância - com uma capacidade nominal total superior a 43 MWh.
Paralelamente, a empresa produz toda a energia eléctrica de que necessita para a sua atividade de produção de pasta de papel através da cogeração. Este processo assenta no aproveitamento de componentes vegetais com propriedades combustíveis e que não servem para a produção de pasta de papel (ligninas), que são queimados para produzir vapor que servirão para operar um gerador industrial.
Até Junho de 2008, a Altri possuia uma outra atividade industrial, através da F.Ramada, que se dedicava ao retalho de aços e ao desenvolvimento de soluções industriais de sistemas de armazenagem. Em Junho de 2008 efetivou-se a cisão da F.Ramada, que deixou de integrar a Altri. O racional estratégico desta operação prende-se com a focalização exclusiva da empresa no seu core business, a gestão florestal e a produção de pasta de papel.
Este desempenho financeiro foi reconhecido pelo mercado, tendo o título Altri registado um desempenho assinalável no mercado de capitais. Registe-se que a acção Altri iniciou a cotação (Março de 2005) com um preço de 0,55€ por acção.
A Altri tem assentado o seu crescimento numa estratégia de aquisições transformadoras (Celtejo em 2005 e Celbi em 2006), e na maximização do retorno ao accionista.

A FLORESTA
A Floresta Portuguesa
A floresta portuguesa ocupa cerca de 3,46 Milhões de hectares, representando 38,8% do território continental e aumentou 109.000 hectares entre 1995 e 2005.
As principais espécies florestais em Portugal Continental são, por ordem decrescente, o pinheiro bravo, o eucalipto e o sobreiro, que representam cerca de 74% das áreas florestais existentes. (fonte AIFF, 2010).
Dentro da Indústria da Fileira Florestal nacional, o sector da pasta e do papel gere, de forma direta, a maior área de floresta do País.
Os incêndios florestais mantêm-se como uma das principais ameaças à Fileira Florestal, em resultado do elevado número de ocorrências e da correspondente elevada área ardida. O ano de 2009 evidenciou um retrocesso nos resultados obtidos face aos anos anteriores.

A Floresta da Altri
A floresta é um ativo estratégico da Altri. Embora sob diversas formas jurídicas, em finais de 2013, a Altri mantinha sob sua intervenção 83.760 hectares de terrenos florestais. Nestes, o eucalipto destaca-se como a principal cultura da floresta da Altri, ocupando mais de 66.800 hectares e garantindo um autoabastecimento em madeira e biomassa complementar ao abastecimento proveniente do mercado. A gestão praticada pela Altri Florestal encontra-se certificada pelos principais sistemas de certificação de gestão florestal sustentável e representa uma garantia para a prossecução dos objetivos da empresa, hoje e no futuro.
Os recursos florestais da Altri, embora se encontrem dispersos em todo o País, na sua grande maioria estão concentrados no Vale do Tejo, conferindo-lhes uma importância acrescida face à sua proximidade aos centros fabris da Altri. Esta proximidade tem uma grande importância estratégica pois permite uma otimização dos custos de transporte, assim como, uma grande eficácia na mobilização de madeira quando comparada com a produção de madeira localizada a maiores distâncias.
O Eucalipto
Eucalipto é a designação vulgar das várias espécies vegetais do género Eucalyptus.
O Eucaliptus globulus é uma das 700 espécies de eucalipto. Introduzido em Portugal há quase 200 anos, é hoje uma das árvores mais amplamente cultivada em florestas de produção em Portugal, principalmente para fabrico de pasta de papel.
Uma outra espécie tem vindo a aumentar, nos últimos anos, a sua área de plantação em Portugal é o Eucalyptus nitens. Esta espécie, é utilizada em estações de altitude superior a 400m e com precipitação elevada.
O NOSSO PRODUTO
Pasta de Papel
A Celbi produz uma pasta de fibra curta a partir de eucalipto. As propriedades da fibra desta espécie conferem à pasta produzida pela Celbi características especiais.
Em comparação com outras pastas concorrentes, produzidas a partir de outras espécies de eucalipto, a pasta da Celbi distingue-se pelas suas especificidades de resistência, boa opacidade e elevada porosidade.
A marca Celbi PP é reconhecida no mercado pela sua elevada qualidade, em especial no que diz respeito ao baixo nível de sujidade, brancura e consistência das suas propriedades e características físicas, químicas e papeleiras.
Produção
1. Madeira
A Celbi produz pasta de papel utilizando madeira de eucalipto.
2. Descasque e Destroçamento
A madeira é descascada e destroçada em aparas que são armazenadas numa pilha exterior.
3. Cozimento da Madeira
Após um processo de crivagem, as aparas são alimentadas em conjunto com licor branco (químicos para cozimento) e vapor a um digestor contínuo. Os químicos dissolvem a lenhina, a substância responsável pela agregação das fibras, com libertação destas, resultando a chamada pasta crua.
4. Lavagem da pasta
A pasta crua é lavada, para remover produtos residuais, orgânicos e inorgânicos, resultantes do processo de cozimento e submetida a operações de crivagem, para remoção de partículas incozidas e outras impurezas. Depois destas operações, a pasta crua é sujeita a um pré-branqueamento com oxigénio, do qual resulta uma pasta semi-branqueada, de tonalidade amarela que é enviada para a instalação de branqueamento.
5. Branqueamento da pasta
À entrada da instalação de branqueamento, a pasta contém ainda compostos residuais, resultantes da decomposição da lenhina, que são gradualmente removidos na sua quase totalidade através de reações químicas, com agentes branqueadores como o oxigénio, o peróxido de hidrogénio (água oxigenada) e o dióxido de cloro. No final desta fase, a pasta apresenta-se sob a forma de uma suspensão espessa, de cor branca.
6. Secagem da Pasta
A suspensão de pasta branqueada é submetida a uma crivagem e depuração finais, sendo depois lançada sobre uma tela em movimento onde lhe é retirada grande parte da água, por ação de vácuo. A seguir é prensada e seca por contacto com um grande número de cilindros aquecidos interiormente com vapor. Após a secagem, a folha final é cortada em folhas mais pequenas que são empilhadas em fardos de 250 kg cada, os quais seguem para o armazém da pasta.
7. Fardos de Pasta
No armazém da pasta, os fardos são agrupados com arames em unidades de 8 fardos. São depois empilhados e posteriormente carregados para camiões que os transportam para o porto comercial ou diretamente para o cliente.
Recuperação de Químicos
O licor negro descarregado do digestor, resultante do cozimento das aparas de madeira e sob a forma diluída, é concentrado até se obter um espesso bio-combustível, o licor negro concentrado, que é queimado na caldeira de recuperação. Os produtos químicos inorgânicos do licor negro formam uma substância que depois de dissolvida em água dá origem ao licor verde, constituído por uma grande fração de carbonato de sódio e por sulfureto de sódio.
Ao licor verde é adicionada cal viva, no chamado processo de caustificação, dando origem ao licor branco (hidróxido de sódio e sulfureto de sódio) e a carbonato de cálcio. Este, em suspensão, é retirado e seco, sendo depois novamente transformado em cal viva no forno da cal. Fechando um ciclo, o licor branco regenerado na caustificação vai ser de novo utilizado no processo de cozimento.
Energia
Um dos fatores diferenciadores da Celbi prende-se com o elevado grau de auto-suficiência energética.
A empresa produz toda a energia elétrica de que necessita para a sua atividade de produção de pasta de papel através da cogeração. Este processo assenta no aproveitamento de componentes vegetais com propriedades combustíveis e que não servem para a produção de pasta de papel (ligninas), que são depois queimados na caldeira de recuperação para produzir vapor.
O vapor de alta pressão produzido na caldeira é expandido numa turbina, sendo posteriormente utilizado no processo a média pressão ou a baixa pressão. A energia libertada através da expansão de vapor na turbina é convertida em energia elétrica, a qual, em termos médios e em regime normal de operação, satisfaz as necessidades da fábrica. O sistema interno de distribuição de energia elétrica em média tensão da fábrica está interligado em paralelo permanente com a rede elétrica nacional, permitindo trocas de energia (compra e venda) com a mesma.
A central termoelétrica da Celbi, que integra a caldeira de recuperação e o turbogerador, está licenciada com o estatuto de co-gerador e utiliza fundamentalmente biomassa como combustível.
Paralelamente, através da central termoelétrica a biomassa florestal, pertencente em 50% à EDP Produção Bioelétrica e 50% à ALTRI, é produzida energia que é igualmente injetada na rede nacional a partir de recursos renováveis, nomeadamente biomassa florestal resultante da limpeza das matas e biomassa de origem vegetal.
Conjuntamente, estes dois processos produzem energia suficiente para alimentar uma cidade com 150.000 habitantes.

Decorrentes da matéria-prima a partir da qual é produzida, a pasta da Celbi é especialmente indicada para a produção de papéis finos para impressão, papéis para laminados decorativos, papel de uso doméstico e papel de embalagem.
A Celbi apresenta-se atualmente como um dos principais produtores de pasta a nível europeu, sendo que cerca de 96% da produção da Celbi se destina a mercados da União Europeia, nomeadamente, Espanha, França, Alemanha, Suécia, Portugal, Áustria, Reino Unido, Itália e Holanda.

Apresentação da empresa
Instalada em Portugal no ano de 1965, a Celulose Billerud SARL surgiu como uma iniciativa da Billerud AB, uma empresa sueca ligada a um dos maiores grupos industriais portugueses da altura, a Companhia União Fabril (CUF). A empresa arrancou em 1967, com a produção de pasta solúvel destinada à fabricação de fibras têxteis, com 80 000 toneladas como capacidade máxima. Em Junho de 2006, o grupo ALTRI celebrou um contrato conducente à aquisição de 100% dos direitos de voto da organização, tendo o negócio sido concluído em Agosto de 2006.
Atualmente, a empresa é denominada de Celulose Beira Industrial S.A. – Celbi, pertencente ao grupo ALTRI, dedicando-se à produção de pasta de fibra curta, de elevada qualidade, a partir de Eucalipto, adequada para a produção de determinados tipos de papel e cartão, contando neste momento com 235 colaboradores.
Hoje, a empresa é uma referência mundial na produção de pasta de eucalipto, tratando-se de um dos produtores mais eficientes da Europa (produção em processos fechados, ecológica e ambientalmente equilibrados), tendo uma capacidade de produção anual de cerca de 700.000 toneladas.
A Celbi faz parte do Grupo Altri, no qual estão igualmente inseridas a Caima e a Celtejo, também produtoras de pasta de eucalipto branqueado, com uma produção anual nominal de cerca de 1 milhão de toneladas.
A Altri está cotada na Bolsa de Valores de Lisboa (Euronext Lisboa) desde Março de 2005, integrando o seu índice de referência, o PSI20.
A empresa tem 205.131.672 ações que foram admitidas à cotação, em Março de 2005.
Às três fábricas de pasta de papel, soma-se a Altri Florestal e a EDP Bioeléctrica.
Sendo a gestão florestal uma atividade central da Altri, que gere em Portugal mais de 84 mil hectares de floresta certificada, a auto-suficiência florestal é da ordem dos 30%.
De forma a otimizar a gestão florestal, o Grupo adquiriu 50% da EDP Bioeléctrica (em parceria com a EDP), empresa dedicada à produção de energia elétrica através de biomassa florestal.
Nos últimos anos, a Altri investiu mais de 500 M€ na Celbi, em prol dos projetos C09 e C15, resultando numa duplicação da capacidade produtiva da fábrica e num aumento significativo da sua eficiência e competitividade.

Praia da Leirosa mais limpa e vizinhança mais forte
Cerca de 200 pessoas, entre crianças e adultos, aceitaram o convite da Celbi e meteram mãos à obra para deixar o areal da Praia da Leirosa mais limpo. A iniciativa, completada com almoço-convívio e animação, foi um sucesso a repetir.
Foi em parceria com o Centro de Recreio Popular de Marinha das Ondas – Praia da Leirosa (CRPMO), o Agrupamento de Escuteiros da Marinha das Ondas e com o apoio da Junta de Freguesia da Marinha das Ondas que a Celbi promoveu, na manhã do passado sábado, dia 13 de Junho, uma acção de limpeza da Praia da Leirosa. O dia começou com as palavras de incentivo e de gratidão de Carlos Vanzeller, administrador da Celbi. “Obrigado por se juntarem à Celbi neste dia dedicado a cuidar do ambiente e do futuro de todos”, disse, realçando ainda a importância de iniciativas que reforçam as boas relações de vizinhança entre a unidade industrial que há 50 anos labora na Leirosa e a sua comunidade humana. Bem mais jovens do que a Celbi eram as crianças que competiram alegremente na recolha de lixo do areal da praia, conseguindo lotar dois contentores industriais. “Foi divertido, nunca tinha participado numa limpeza da praia, mas gostava de voltar a fazer isto”, disse, no final da manhã, Bernardo Pedrosa, de 10 anos. “Estou cansada, mas valeu a pena para ver a praia assim tão limpa”, garantiu, por seu turno, Beatriz Pata, de 14. “Apanhei sobretudo covos, mas também algum lixo que as pessoas deixam” lamentou João Mateus, de 12 anos, que participou por saber “que ia ser divertido”. Os muitos jovens participantes estiveram lado a lado com pais e outros adultos, incluindo vários pescadores da Arte Xávega, que assim puderam ajudar a recolher alguns detritos resultantes da sua actividade, perdidos no mar e pelo mar devolvidos.
“Basta olhar para estas crianças, tão felizes por estar aqui, a limpar a praia, para perceber que elas nunca vão colocar lixo no chão, que nunca vão deixar lixo na areia”, afirmou, satisfeito, Rodrigues Nada, presidente da Junta de Freguesia da Marinha das Ondas. A convicção é partilhada por Célia Marques, chefe do Agrupamento de Escuteiros 1224 da mesma freguesia, frequentado por dezenas de crianças e jovens da Leirosa. “Fazemos a limpeza da praia há quase duas décadas, para chamar a atenção dos nossos elementos para a importância de preservar as praias, e este ano surgiu o convite para nos associarmos à Celbi, que nos tem apoiado sempre que solicitada, fazendo desta acção uma festa ainda maior”, explicou. Com a praia limpa, a festa fez-se então no CRPMO, na Praia da Leirosa. Para a presidente da direcção, Paula Ramos, esta foi mais uma oportunidade para estreitar as boas relações entre a Celbi e a comunidade local. “O bom relacionamento é antigo, e tem vindo a ser aprofundado, com a Celbi a apoiar diversas actividades e melhoramentos na colectividade”, reconhece a dirigente. “Esta é a comunidade mais próxima da fábrica, e é natural que seja também a mais beneficiada, mas temos muito prazer que iniciativas destas permitam à administração de Celbi conhecer e perceber onde são aplicados os apoios que nos concedem”, concluiu. A colectividade, que preparou e acolheu o almoço-convívio e a tarde de festa – com insufláveis e o atelier «Fábrica de Papel» para os mais novos, e ainda as actuações do Rancho Infantil da Praia da Leirosa e da banda Sombras – recebeu, neste dia especial, um donativo de 500 €, verba igual à entregue ao Agrupamento de Escuteiros. Quanto à Junta de Freguesia, estão em curso projectos que contarão com o habitual apoio da Celbi, mas Rodrigues Nada não resistiu a lançar um novo desafio. “Ainda este Verão, seria muito bom voltar a fazer uma iniciativa destas, mas para limpeza das fontes e fontanários da freguesia”, sugeriu.
"Open Day” com fornecedores de Madeira
CRIADO NÚMERO VERDE PARA APOIO AOS PARCEIROS
Sob o lema «Juntos por Bons Caminhos», cerca de 200 fornecedores de madeira da Celulose Beira Industrial, Celbi S.A, oriundos de diversas regiões do país, estiveram no passado sábado, dia 30 de maio, na Figueira da Foz, para um «Open Day» promovido pela empresa líder em Portugal na produção de pasta de celulose de fibra curta.
O dia começou com a receção dos parceiros convidados, que, após um welcome breakfast, puderam visualizar o filme, produzido para assinalar o 50.º aniversário da Celbi e que dá a conhecer a realidade da empresa que, a nível mundial, é um exemplo de eficácia e eficiência, colocando já perto de 700 mil toneladas/ano no mercado europeu das empresas papeleiras que produzem desde papéis finos a tissue.
«Só a fábrica da Celbi adquire anualmente mais de cem milhões de euros de eucalipto», sublinhou Borges de Oliveira, administrador do Grupo Altri. «É para nós fundamental ter uma relação estável e de compromisso com os nossos fornecedores e, através deles, também com os produtores florestais», aduziu. «Hoje têm a possibilidade de visitar a melhor fábrica de pasta para papel do mundo. Não a maior, mas a melhor, porque tem o menor consumo de água e de energia por tonelada de pasta produzida, e está no patamar de excelência em todos os indicadores utilizados para análise de fábricas do setor», explicou, lançando um novo desafio aos fornecedores de madeira. «Se há um indicador em que ainda podemos melhorar, é no do consumo de madeira por tonelada de pasta produzida», revelou. Para tal, a Celbi exortou os parceiros fornecedores a apostarem ainda mais no tipo de madeira mais rentável para a produção de pasta de celulose de fibra curta, o eucalipto globulus, e a evitarem cortar precocemente as árvores.
Na esteira deste desafio, Miguel Silveira, administrador da Altri Florestal, anunciou a criação de um número verde, totalmente gratuito, colocado à disposição dos produtores e fornecedores de madeira, com o objetivo, não apenas de agilizar a relação comercial, mas também de contribuir para a melhoria de todo o processo, seja através do acesso às plantas melhoradas criadas em estufas da Celbi ou, por exemplo, no apoio a candidaturas para modernização de equipamentos ou certificação de procedimentos, no âmbito do quadro de apoios comunitários Portugal 20/20.
O dia prosseguiu com a visita às instalações fabris – melhoradas nos últimos anos, desde a aquisição da Celbi pelo Grupo Altri, com investimentos sequenciais de perto de mil milhões de euros –, guiada por colaboradores que explicaram todo o processo de transformação da matéria-prima fornecida pelos parceiros visitantes no produto final.
A concluir este Open Day, a Celbi proporcionou um almoço-convívio aos visitantes, muitos dos quais pertencentes, já, a uma segunda geração de fornecedores de madeira à empresa sediada na Figueira da Foz. «E alguns vêm acompanhados dos filhos, o que muito nos apraz, pelo que significa em termos de estabilidade e de uma relação de confiança e duradoura», sublinhou Carlos Vanzeller, administrador da Celbi, que reiterou a convicção de que «Juntos por Bons Caminhos» é, mais do que um slogan, uma realidade com futuro.
Para memória futura deste Open Day, os visitantes foram brindados com diversas lembranças, incluindo o livro do antigo quadro superior da empresa, Manuel Saraiva Santos, intitulado “A Indústria da pasta de celulose na história da Figueira da Foz – A Celbi 1960 a 1967”. A obra, que assinala os 50 anos da empresa, presta homenagem a todos os que contribuíram, ao longo destas cinco décadas, para a construção e afirmação de uma unidade que é já das maiores exportadoras nacionais.
Celbi lançou a Primeira Pedra
A celebrar cinco décadas, a Celbi SA assinalou em festa, na passada sexta feira, 19 de junho, os 50 anos volvidos sobre o momento fundador por excelência: a colocação da primeira pedra.
Depois de ter realizado um Open Day para os fornecedores vindos de todo o país, e de se ter aliado a instituições locais para uma acção pedagógico-ambiental de limpeza da praia, iniciativa aberta à comunidade vizinha da Praia da Leirosa, a Celbi dedicou o cinquentenário da colocação da primeira pedra da então denominada Celulose Billerud S.A.R.L., aos seus actuais funcionários.
Num dos muitos espaços ajardinados da fábrica, um enorme bolo, sumos e champagne acompanharam o coro de parabéns, seguido de animado convívio e partilha de experiências, aprendizagens e memórias. Como as de Elísio Parracho que, aos 60 anos, já conta com 50 de Celbi. “Entrei na Celbi como aguadeiro, aos 11 anos, tinha a fábrica meses”, recordou aos colegas. “No primeiro dia vim descalço, no segundo com uns sapatos emprestados e, no terceiro, já a minha mãe me tinha comprado uns sapatos”, confidenciou.
O mais antigo funcionário da Celbi ainda em actividade passou em revista os estudos que fez, as portas que se lhe abriram e a vida que escolheu, e escolhe ainda, fazer na fábrica, agora nos serviços administrativos. No outro extremo do tempo está, José Oliveira, engenheiro mecânico admitido há apenas duas semanas na empresa, como desenhador e projectista. “O meu pai trabalhou na Celbi e era um sonho antigo vir para cá trabalhar”, explicou. Conseguiu e, agora, é um dos muitos exemplos que inspiram os estagiários que encontram na Celbi uma primeira ligação entre o universo académico e o mundo real do trabalho. É o caso de Carla Duque, de 25 anos, natural de Soure, que há seis meses monitoriza a certificação energética da Celbi. “Faltam três meses para o estágio acabar e já sei que, se não ficar, vou ter saudades”, confidencia, destacando “o bom ambiente e a generosidade dos colegas mais velhos” como parte importante da experiência.
Ao longo de todo o dia, um ardina, como os que há meio século vendiam diários e semanários, distribuiu exemplares da “Primeira Pedra”, um jornal em edição única, comemorativo do 50.º aniversário da Celbi. Com uma tiragem de 1000 exemplares, que chegará também como oferta a cerca de 250 entidades regionais, o “Primeira Pedra” recupera as notícias dadas à estampa, no mês de junho de 1965, pela imprensa local, com destaque para o dia 19, quando a primeira pedra foi colocada sob um marco de betão exteriormente datado, juntamente com um pequeno cofre. Lá dentro, estavam algumas moedas correntes à época, para atrair sucesso e fortuna, e ainda um pergaminho – que esta sexta feira esteve em exposição – com uma mensagem para o futuro. Nela, pode ler-se o desejo expresso de que a fábrica “seja mais uma contribuição da geração presente para o engrandecimento do país e para o bem-estar de todos, especialmente dos habitantes do distrito de Coimbra, que a ela emprestarão o esforço dos seus braços e a luz da sua inteligência”. Cinquenta anos depois, o pergaminho continua válido, a Primeira Pedra sólida e a Celbi a crescer. Parabéns a todos, muito em especial aos funcionários que passaram pela empresa ao longo destas décadas e que serão acarinhados já no próximo dia 10 de julho, num evento que lhes é inteiramente dedicado.
Ex-colaboradores a «Reviver Bons Caminhos»
No ano em que se encontra a celebrar cinco décadas, a Celbi SA organizou um dia dedicado àqueles que contribuíram para o sucesso daquela que é uma das mais eficientes empresas do seu sector no mundo inteiro.
No passado dia 10 de Julho, os antigos colaboradores puderam assim recordar uma importante parte das suas vidas, reencontrar amigos e colegas e (re)visitar as instalações, ficando a par dos novos investimentos, num dia que teve como ponto alto um animado almoço-convívio. «Reviver Bons Caminho» foi o mote lançado e aceite por 200 pessoas que dedicaram parte das suas vidas à Celbi.
Gratidão e orgulho
As boas-vindas foram dadas por Nogueira dos Santos, administrador da Celbi, que agradeceu a presença de tantos antigos colaboradores, reservando ainda uma palavra amiga e de reconhecimento a todos os que, pela lei da vida ou por motivos de saúde, não puderam comparecer. Os “50 anos de sucessos” da Celbi foram recordados pelo administrador da empresa, que lembrou que a revista Exame a considerou a melhor empresa do sector dos últimos 25 anos. “É sempre bom saber que não somos só nós que consideramos a nossa empresa capaz de grandes feitos, os outros também”, afirmou. “Temos uma cultura de rigor e uma orientação para resultados que justifica sermos a empresa mais eficiente do mundo na produção de pasta branqueada de eucalipto”, considerou. “Cada um de vós teve, no seu tempo, a responsabilidade de manter a cultura e os valores da empresa, e transmiti-los à geração seguinte. E a nós compete-nos a grande responsabilidade de, tendo recolhido esse testemunho, engrandecê-lo e transmiti-lo aos que virão depois de nós”, acrescentou. Os tempos mudam, os accionistas mudaram, mas a empresa mantém a sua identidade. “Nós já fomos uma pequena empresa num grande grupo, quando o accionista era um gigante sueco, e agora somos uma grande empresa num pequeno grupo português, mas a Celbi continua a desenvolver-se, a crescer e a merecer a confiança dos accionistas, que assim continuam a investir e a manter a grandeza da empresa, de que todos os que aqui estão já fizeram parte, seguramente fizeram a sua parte, e devem estar orgulhosos por isso. A todos o reconhecimento da Celbi”, concluiu.
Recordações na primeira pessoa
Carlos Guerra tem 80 anos. Entrou para a Celbi “muito novo”, e aí trabalhou “quase 30 anos”, durante os quais acumulou “muito boas recordações, de chefes e de colegas”, alguns dos quais, confessou, teve “dificuldade em reconhecer, passado tanto tempo”. Visivelmente emocionado, afirmou-se “muito satisfeito” por ver a empresa “tão modernizada e evoluída”.
Francisco Moura também guarda boas memórias dos 34 anos em que trabalhou na Celbi, e foi com prazer que reencontrou antigos companheiros e visitou as instalações. “Algumas coisas estão muito diferentes, mas outras ainda conheço bem”, garantiu.
Licínia Gonçalves trabalhou 24 anos na Celbi. Começou nas quintas a plantar eucaliptos, e foi com alegria que viu uma fotografia sua desse tempo em destaque na exposição comemorativa dos 50 anos da empresa. “Tão novinha que eu era…”, recordou. Ainda não era casada quando passou para a empresa, na área das limpezas. “Estou mesmo comovida de encontrar tantas pessoas com quem trabalhei”, disse. “A fábrica está enorme, acho que já não conheço quase nada”, confessou. “Há 21 anos que não entrava aqui”, explicou.
Beatriz Maia foi uma das suas amigas mais próximas. Entrou para a Celbi com 19 anos, “ainda com o primeiro filho na barriga”, e foi ali que trabalhou “toda a vida”. Criou os filhos, fez amigos, construiu memórias. “É muito bom reencontrar estas pessoas, os colegas, os chefes, tudo gente boa”, disse. “Não vou visitar tudo porque as pernas já não deixam, mas onde eu conseguir chegar, vou”, concluiu, entusiasmada.
Martins da Silva sabe de cor a data em que entrou na Celbi: “10 de Fevereiro de 1975, tinha 29 anos”. Trabalharia na mesma empresa mais do que isso: 37 anos, até Maio de 2012. Começou no sector da produção, passou pela manutenção e terminou a sua carreira no departamento de informática. “Julgo que a força da Celbi é a sua filosofia. Esta é uma empresa que começou por ser sueca, depois pertenceu a um grupo sueco-finlandês e agora é portuguesa, mas manteve sempre a sua filosofia: uma visão de futuro, baseada em boas equipas, tanto na gestão como ao nível operacional, e uma aposta no desenvolvimento, que lhe permitiu entrar e continuar na primeira linha das empresas do seu sector, sem descurar as questões ambientais e a sustentabilidade em geral”, sintetizou o antigo colaborador.
Alice Mano tinha 18 anos quando entrou na Celbi. Estava-se em 1966 e a jovem poderia ainda assistir à fase final da construção da empresa. “Trabalhávamos nuns pré-fabricados, dentro do que viria a ser o armazém da pasta”, recordou. Um novo milénio chegaria ainda com Alice Mano na Celbi. Depois, ainda ao serviço da empresa, rumaria aos escritórios da empresa-mãe, à época a Storaenso, em Londres, durante cinco anos. “Foram 39 anos muito bons, para mim foi uma escola de vida”, garantiu. “Tive sempre muitas boas relações na Celbi, com pessoas de todos os departamentos, fiz grandes amigos e é com muito agrado que estou a reencontrá-los agora”, acrescentou. Das razões que levam uma empresa a crescer ao longo de 50 anos, não tem dúvidas. “Uma gestão sempre muito criteriosa e planeada. Até na época conturbada do 25 de Abril, nós devemos ter sido das poucas empresas em Portugal que conseguiram atravessar aqueles tempos revolucionários com alguma estabilidade”, recordou. “Éramos considerados a ‘jóia da coroa’”, concluiu, reconhecendo “o orgulho” em fazer parte da história da Celbi.
A encerrar o convívio, Carlos Van Zeller, administrador da Celbi, garantiu aos antigos colaboradores que a empresa quer honrar a sua História, continuando a construí-la, diariamente. Reportando-se às “transformações impressionantes dos últimos seis anos”, com investimentos de mais de 400 milhões de euros na fábrica a exigirem muito “de toda a organização”, Carlos Van Zeller elogiou a equipa que tornou possível o objectivo de todo o projecto: duplicar a produção da Celbi. “Tivemos a preocupação de renovar a equipa, de obter mais competências, tudo para que a empresa continue a apostar na eficiência, na sustentabilidade e no crescimento que faz da Celbi não a maior, mas uma das melhores fábricas de produção de pasta da Europa”, frisou. “No início dos anos 90, a Celbi produzia na ordem das 250 mil toneladas, este ano vai produzir 700 mil e, para o ano, ainda mais”, exemplificou. “Nós gastávamos 70 m3 de água por cada tonelada de pasta produzida, hoje estamos em 18 e o nosso objectivo é chegar brevemente aos 15”, acrescentou. “É esta a filosofia da Celbi: utilizar sempre mais e melhor os recursos”, aduziu. No que respeita à energia, para além de ser auto-sustentável, a Celbi ainda coloca na rede nacional “energia suficiente para alimentar uma cidade com a dimensão de Coimbra”.
“Vamos continuar a crescer, mas sobretudo a melhorar. Queremos ser a melhor fábrica da Europa e uma das melhores do mundo, porque acreditamos que é possível, com a equipa que temos e que vamos continuar a construir, investindo na inovação e, claro, nas pessoas, sobretudo da zona da Figueira da Foz, e numa cada vez mais forte relação com a comunidade”, concluiu.
Recorde-se que as celebrações dos 50 anos da Celbi arrancaram com uma exposição e lançamento do livro “A Indústria da pasta de celulose na história da Figueira da Foz – A Celbi 1960 a 1967,” da autoria de Manuel Saraiva Santos, no dia 10 de Março, no CAE. Seguiu-se um Open Day, a 30 de Maio, para os fornecedores de madeira, de todo o país; uma acção pedagógico-ambiental de limpeza da Praia da Leirosa em parceria com instituições locais, a 13 de Junho, e a comemoração do cinquentenário da colocação da primeira pedra da então denominada Celulose Billerud S.A.R.L., a 19 de Junho, partilhada com os actuais funcionários e perpetuada num jornal comemorativo, “Primeira Pedra”.

Responsabilidade Ambiental
A Celbi tem, desde o início da sua atividade, consciência do valor ambiental dos recursos naturais que explora e os impactos ambientais que provoca. Para assegurar a melhoria contínua do seu desempenho, a empresa dispõe de um Sistema de Gestão Ambiental (SGA) implementado e certificado em conformidade com normas internacionais.
O SGA da Celbi assume um papel importante a todos os níveis da organização, articulando-se com todas as atividades da empresa. Foram definidas e documentadas responsabilidades para todas as áreas organizacionais e respetivos colaboradores.
Neste âmbito, estão identificados todos os aspetos ambientais e avaliados os respetivos impactos para todas as atividades realizadas, bem como definidas as medidas de controlo e mitigação associadas. Todas as reclamações ambientais são devidamente tratadas e, se relevantes, incorporadas nos processos de melhoria contínua existentes.
Tem sido feito um esforço, ao longo dos anos, para minimizar os consumos de matérias-primas, de combustíveis fósseis e de água. Pretende-se continuar neste caminho, por forma a otimizar o desempenho ambiental, reduzindo custos e aumentando a competividade. Por outro lado, tem-se trabalhado na redução do impacto ambiental provocado pelas atividades das fábricas da Altri, com o desenvolvimento de ações conducentes à diminuição dos poluentes líquidos das emissões atmosféricas e dos resíduos produzidos.
A PRIMEIRA DO SETOR
Já em 2012, a Celbi recebeu a confirmação da certificação do seu Sistema de Gestão da Energia. É assim a primeira empresa em Portugal e a primeira do setor de produção de pasta e papel na Europa, a ter esta certificação.

A Celbi reconhece a sua responsabilidade de envolvimento com a Comunidade e nesse âmbito, desenvolve e apoia um conjunto de iniciativas e atividades, das mais diversas instituições, que são essenciais para o seu compromisso em criar relacionamentos relevantes com a comunidade local. Através de donativos e apoio logístico, a empresa procura identificar projetos com mérito e com impacto significativo na qualidade de vida das populações.
A Celbi desenvolve ainda outras ações de proximidade com as comunidades vizinhas.
Assim, e em virtude da renovação do seu parque informático, a empresa entrega gratuitamente equipamento e material informático a instituições sem fins lucrativos, que dele necessitam, para que o acesso às novas tecnologias da informação dos mais diversos estratos sociais seja uma realidade.
A empresa apoia igualmente todas as iniciativas, organizadas pelo Clube Celbi, que visem proporcionar aos seus trabalhadores a satisfação do seu bem-estar. Para além das iniciativas referidas, a empresa apoiou igualmente um conjunto de atividades de caráter social, desportivo, cultural e recreativo de diferentes entidades locais e nacionais.
ALGUNS APOIOS:
Em 2010, a título exemplificativo, a empresa investiu 1,6 milhões de euros na beneficiação do acesso rodoviário à Celbi e à Leirosa.
Já em 2012, a Celbi celebrou um protocolo com a Câmara Municipal da Figueira da Foz e a EPIS – Empresários pela Inclusão Social. Este protocolo tem por objetivo a implementação de uma rede de mediadores profissionais de capacitação para o sucesso escolar no concelho da Figueira da Foz, junto dos alunos do 3º ciclo do ensino básico.
Em 2013 a Celbi assina um protocolo de colaboração com o Hospital Distrital da Figueira da Foz, que formaliza uma parceria baseada em critérios de responsabilidade social. O protocolo visa garantir o auxílio na área dos cuidados médicos à população que recorre aos serviços do Hospital e materializou-se na doação pela Celbi à Liga dos Amigos do Hospital, de vinte e um computadores e oito monitores, equipamentos necessários ao funcionamento da Unidade de Internamento de Curta Duração do Serviço de Urgência.

A Celbi trabalha sistematicamente na procura da melhoria contínua.
As Políticas são colocadas em prática através das ferramentas fornecidas pelos Sistemas de Gestão. Os Sistemas de Gestão são utilizados para estabelecer objetivos e metas, atribuir responsabilidades e fazer o seguimento do desempenho da empresa no que diz respeito aos seus impactos ambientais, sociais, saúde e segurança no trabalho e qualidade do seu produto.
O desempenho da empresa é medido de uma forma regular, nas reuniões diárias e semanais dos quadros técnicos, nas auditorias internas e externas realizadas em conformidade com as normas internacionais.

Saúde e Segurança
De forma a criar as melhores condições de trabalho e bem-estar dos seus trabalhadores, a Celbi reforçou nos últimos anos os seus esforços na Segurança e Saúde Ocupacional:
Definiu como orientação o aperfeiçoamento do seu Sistema de Gestão de Saúde e Segurança no Trabalho e a respetiva certificação de acordo com a norma OHSAS 18001/NP 4397, o que aconteceu no ano de 2005.
Estabeleceu objetivos quanto à frequência e gravidade de acidentes de trabalho e a taxas de absentismo por doença e acidentes.
Implementou diversos programas de melhoria na área da Saúde e Segurança.
Em termos operacionais, a Gestão da Saúde e Segurança no Trabalho na Celbi envolve a interação entre o Departamento de Sistemas de Gestão e Controlo Técnico (Serviços de Segurança e de Proteção contra Incêndios), o Serviço de Medicina no Trabalho e as estruturas organizacionais da empresa.
Como pilares fundamentais de suporte ao funcionamento do Sistema de Gestão, destacam-se:
O Posto Médico, com um Médico do Trabalho do quadro da empresa e um serviço de enfermagem a funcionar adequadamente e equipado com moderno equipamento de diagnóstico e tratamento.

Pedaço de História
Em 8 de Novembro de 1969, teve lugar a primeira reunião de um grupo de trabalhadores da Celbi com a finalidade de estudar e decidir sobre a viabilidade da criação de uma Casa de Pessoal e que, mais tarde, em 10 de Janeiro de 1970, foi aprovada em Assembleia Geral de Trabalhadores a constituição da associação de carácter social, cultural, desportiva e recreativa que viria a designar-se por Clube Celbi.

Board message
Celbi is one of those projects that since its materialization in 1965, has evolved, to adapt to the market, while complying with the highest ethical and economic standards. Over these 50 years many things have happened. Some better, others not so good. But Celbi always resisted.
When, in 2006, Altri decided to invest in its acquisition, they knew of its economic and social value. Since then, we changed its profile, without changing its matrix, its genetics and its mission: to be the best pulp producer in Europe. Altri held, since then, investment approaching one billion euros, making this company one of the largest in its sector.
In 2006, Celbi produced about 300,000 tons of pulp. In 2014, it produced about 687,000 tons of pulp. These numbers are as or more relevant, if we consider that almost all of our production is intended for foreign markets and is transported, mainly, through the commercial port of Figueira da Foz, boosting this structure and contributing to its sustainability.
Celbi is now one of the largest domestic exporters and one that retains more gross value added. At the same time, and though globalization has turned companies more focused on themselves, Celbi and its successive teams have always known - in so far as possible – to be available for their workers, their families and the community it belongs to. We know that the impacts of having a company like Celbi as neighbour were not always good. However, we have, over the years, continuously invested in reducing those impacts and we have achieved a satisfactory evolution. We also found a solution, in the end of 2014, which reduces the impact of the movement of trucks between the factory and the port. Thousands of trucks were removed from roads, with a significant reduction of the ecological footprint.
It is also pleasant to see that Celbi has always lived in social peace, even in the periods of more troubled History. Just as, in permanent dialogue with the community, it was always possible to build bridges to resolve the various issues that have arisen. Over the years, thousands of workers have daily given their best, teams with high sense of responsibility that knew, and they know, that the success of Celbi is also their own success.
Celbi is now one of the largest companies in the Centre region of Portugal, a reference at national and European level. We want it to continue, and as far as Altri is concerned, we will do everything so that this centre of excellence continues to grow and improve.

Celbi
Formed in 1965, Celulose Beira Industrial (Celbi) SA, based in Leirosa, 15km south of Figueira da Foz, is primarily engaged in the production and trade of short fibre paper pulp of high quality, from Eucalyptus, and in the production of electricity (cogeneration).
Belonging to the Altri Group since August 2006, Celbi is one of the most efficient global producers of eucalyptus pulp, having an installed production capacity superior to 700 thousand tons. With 50 years of existence, Celbi is recognized worldwide for the high quality of its product together with an excellent customer service, which makes the company a reference producer on the European scene.
Celbi has, from the beginning of its activity, awareness of the environmental value of the natural resources it exploits and the environmental impacts it causes. It was the first in Europe, in its sector, to receive certification for its Energy Management System in accordance with ISO 50001.

History
1962
The Swedish Company Billerud AB starts forestry activities in Portugal
1965
Celulose Billerud SARL was established by initiative of the Swedish company Billerud AB (71%) in association with one of the largest Portuguese groups at that time - Companhia União Fabril (23%) and a group of local wood producers (6%).
1968
Celbi started up producing soluble pulp, intended for the production of textile fibres, with a maximum capacity of 80 000 tons. The decision of producing soluble pulp would be revised in the first years of production and the mill was adjusted to produce pulp with a capacity of 120 thousand tons per year.
1970 - The company name was changed to Celulose Beira Industrial (Celbi), SARL
1975
The Portuguese State nationalizes all the Portuguese shares, thus becoming owner, through IPE (Institute for Corporate Investments and Participations).
1984
Several mergers and acquisitions in the forest sector in Sweden transferred 71% of Celbi’s capital to the Swedish group STORA.
1995
Stora Group buys the total shares of Celbi to the Portuguese government and holds 100 % of the capital. Celbi changed its name to Stora Celbi Celulose Beira Industrial, SA.
1998
Merger between Stora (Swedish) and Enso (Finnish), wherefrom the Group Stora Enso was originated. This Group is one of the leaders in manufacturing and marketing of forest products. CELBI got back its former name.
2006
In July it is announced that the Altri Group is the winner of the tender for the sale of Celbi’s shares. The business was finalised in August 2006.
2007
Signing of the Investment Agreement with the Portuguese Association of Investment (API) designed to increase the pulp production capacity from 300,000 to 550,000 tons per year.
2013
In November, it is signed with AICEP, the Investment Agreement for the C15 project, aimed at increasing efficiency and competitiveness.
2014
Celbi reaches a new record for annual production of 687,000 tons of bleached eucalyptus pulp.

BEST COMPANY OF THE SECTOR
It was considered the best company in the pulp and paper sector by Exame magazine, ten times in the last 25 years.

In 1996 and 2001 it was considered the best company of the year by the magazine "Exame" and "Diário de Notícias".
SUSTAINABILITY
Altri was nominated in the category "Sustainability" by "Logística Moderna" magazine by adopting a road transport alternative more efficient and more environmentally sustainable. The solution is the development of transport vehicles of 25.25 meters, referred to as gigaliners, and which will make the transport of pulp from Altri factory in Leirosa (Celbi) to the Seaport of Figueira da Foz.
Projects
C09
With a view to modernizing and increasing the capacity of the mill, Celbi implemented, between 2007 and 2010, the C09 project whose purpose was the remodeling of its pulp production line and assembly of new facilities in the chemical recovery area and energy production, allowing to double the company's production capacity.
The investment aimed at achieving an ecologically balanced mill, with an environmental and process performance compatible with the "best available techniques" defined by the European Union, and in full compliance with the national and European Community legislation.
Simultaneously, EDP - Produção Bioelétrica, SA built a thermoelectric biomass plant in the production facilities of Celbi. This new plant has enabled the production of electricity to inject into the national electric grid from renewable resources, including forest biomass resulting from the cleaning of forests and other biomass of plant origin.
During two years, nearly 80 external companies of various areas of expertise were involved in the project, which guaranteed an average monthly attendance of 900 workers in activity. This really reveals the dimension of the project and its impact on the local economy and having contemplated the complete revision of the access roads to the factory.

With the success of the previous project, Celbi invested again another 30 million euros. Thus, a new project was implemented, called C15 project, which aimed at a set of interventions, and some renovations in several manufacturing areas where release capacity needs were detected in order to increase efficiency and competitiveness of the mill.
Its implementation started in 2013 and it was concluded in June 2015.
THE GROUP
Altri
Altri is a European leading company in the production of eucalyptus pulp and forest management. Altri is listed on Lisbon Stock Exchange, which holds its main stock market index, the PSI-20.
Altri is a reference European producer in the pulp industry, being one of the most efficient producers in Europe of bleached eucalyptus pulp.
Nowadays, Altri has three bleached eucalyptus pulp mills - Celbi, Caima and Celtejo - with a nominal annual capacity around 900 thousand tons.
Forest management is a central activity of Altri, which manages approximately 84 thousand hectares of certified forest in Portugal. The wood self-sufficiency rate is around 30%.
To optimize forest management, Altri acquired 50% of EDP Bioeléctrica to, in partnership with Energias de Portugal (EDP), produce electrical energy from forest biomass. Currently, this company holds licenses to produce 120 MWh of electricity from biomass, with a market share of around 50%, being operational four power stations up to now - Mortágua, Rodão (Celtejo), Constância (Caima) and Figueira da Foz (Celbi) - with a total capacity of 55 MWh. In 2009, the two biomass plants - Figueira da Foz and Constance – were opened with a total nominal capacity of over 43 MWh.
At the same time, the company produces all the electricity it needs for its pulp production activity through cogeneration. This process is based on the use of vegetable components with fuel properties and that are not suitable for the production of pulp (lignins), which are then burned to produce steam that will provide energy to operate an industrial generator.
By June 2008, Altri possessed another industrial activity through F.Ramada, which dedicated itself to the retail of steel and development of industrial storage systems solutions. In June 2008 there was the split of the F.Ramada, which no longer included Altri. The strategic rationale of this operation relates to the exclusive focus of the company on its core business, forest management and the production of pulp.
This financial performance was recognized by the market and the Altri title recorded a remarkable performance in the capital market. It should be noted that Altri started quotation (March 2005) with a price of 0.55 euros per share.
Altri has based its growth on a strategy of transformational acquisitions (Celtejo in 2005 and Celbi in 2006), and in the maximization of shareholder return.

THE FOREST
The Portuguese forest
The Portuguese forest occupies about 3.46 million hectares, representing 38.8% of the mainland and increased 109,000 hectares between 1995 and 2005.
The main tree species in Portugal are, in descending order, the pinaster, eucalyptus and cork oak, which represent about 74% of the existing forest areas. (AIFF source, 2010).
Within the National Forestry Industry, the pulp and paper sector manages, directly, the largest forest area of the country.
Forest fires remain as a major threat to the Forestry sector as a result of the high number of occurrences and the corresponding high burnt area. 2009 showed a set back in the results obtained compared with the previous years.

The Altri Forest
The forest is a strategic asset of Altri. Although under different legal forms in late 2013, Altri kept under its intervention 83,760 hectares of forest lands. In these, eucalyptus stands out as the main crop of the Altri forest, occupying more than 66,800 hectares and ensuring a self-sufficiency in wood and biomass in complement to the supply from the market. The management practiced by Altri Florestal is certified by the leading certification systems for sustainable forest management and represents a guarantee for the achievement of the company´s business objectives, at present and in the future.
Although the forest resources of Altri are scattered throughout the country, the vast majority are concentrated in the Tagus Valley, giving them an increased importance, given its proximity to the manufacturing centers of Altri. This proximity has an enormous strategic importance because it allows an optimization of the transportation costs, as well as a great effectiveness in transporting timber compared with the timber production located at greater distances.
Eucalyptus
The Eucalyptus tree is the common name of several plant species of the genus Eucalyptus.
The Eucalyptus globulus is one of the 700 species of eucalyptus tree. Introduced in Portugal for almost 200 years, it is now one of the most widely cultivated trees in production forests in Portugal, especially for the production of pulp.
The Eucalyptus nitens is another species that has been increasing its planting area in Portugal in recent years. This species is used in altitude stations higher than 400m and with a lot of rainfall.
OUR PRODUCT
Paper Pulp
Celbi produces a high quality short fibre pulp from Eucalyptus. The properties of the fibres of this species give Celbi pulp special characteristics.
When compared with other competing pulps produced from other species of eucalyptus, the Celbi pulp makes the difference for its resistance, good opacity and high porosity characteristics.
The brand Celbi PP is recognised in the market by its top quality, particularly on what concerns to the low level of dirt, bleaching levels and consistency of its physical, chemical and paper properties and characteristics.
Production
1 – Wood
Celbi produces a high quality short fibre pulp from Eucalyptus globulus.
2 – Debarking and chipping
The wood is debarked and converted into chips that are gathered in an open silo.
3 – Wood cooking
After a screening process, the chips are fed into a continuous digester together with white liquor (cooking chemicals) and steam. These chemicals dissolve the lignin, which is the substance responsible for binding the cellulose fibres together, freeing these fibres. The result is the so called unbleached pulp.
4 - Pulp washing
The unbleached pulp is then washed to remove residual products, organic and inorganic, which result from the cooking process and it is next submitted to screening operations that will remove uncooked particles and other impurities.
After these operations, the unbleached pulp is pre-bleached with oxygen, thus becoming semi-bleached pulp – a yellowish pulp that is sent to the bleaching plant.
5 – Pulp bleaching
When entering the bleaching plant, the pulp still contains residual compounds resulting from the degradation of lignin. These are gradually removed through chemical reactions with bleaching agents such as oxygen, hydrogen peroxide and chlorine dioxide. By the end of this phase, the pulp looks like a white bulky suspension.
6 – Pulp drying
The bleached pulp suspension is subject to a final screening and depuration before entering a running wire where most of the water is taken away by vacuum. A subsequent set of roll presses and steam heated cylinders do the drying. When dried, the wide pulp sheet is cut into smaller sheets that are wrapped in bales of 250 kg each and then carried to the pulp warehouse.
7 – Pulp bales
In the pulp warehouse, the bales are grouped and wired into units of 8 bales each that are neatly piled up until they are transported by truck either to the commercial seaport or directly to the client.
Chemicals Recovery
The diluted black liquor resulting from the cooking of the wood chips is concentrated by evaporation after leaving the digester, until a thick bio-fuel is achieved. This concentrated black liquor is then burnt in the recovery boiler.
The inorganic chemicals of the black liquor form a substance that after dilution in water turns into green liquor, mainly consisting of sodium carbonate and sodium sulphide.
In the so called causticizing process, lime is added to the green liquor, thus producing white liquor (sodium hydroxide and sodium sulphide) and calcium carbonate. The latter, in suspension, is then removed and dried, to be transformed back into lime in the lime kiln. Closing this cycle, the white liquor regenerated at the causticizing plant is re-used in the cooking process.
Power
One of the differentiating factors of Celbi has to do with the high degree of energy self-sufficiency.
The company produces all the electricity it needs for its activity of pulp production through cogeneration. This process is based on the use of vegetable components with fuel properties and that are not suitable for the production of paper pulp (lignins), which are then burned in the recovery boiler to produce steam.
The high pressure steam produced in the boiler is expanded in a turbine, and is subsequently used in the process at medium or low pressure. The energy released by the steam expansion in the turbine is converted into electrical energy, which, on average and in normal operation conditions, meets the needs of the factory. The internal system of electricity distribution in medium voltage of the factory is connected in parallel permanently with the national grid, enabling energy trading (buying and selling).
The thermoelectric plant of Celbi, whose recovery boiler and turbo generator are part of, is licensed with the status of co-generator and primarily uses biomass as fuel.
At the same time, the forest biomass is used by the power plant (owned by EDP Produção Bioelétrica with 50% and the other 50% by ALTRI) to produce energy from renewable resources resulting from the cleaning of forests and biomass of plant origin. This is then injected into the national electric grid
Together, these two processes produce enough energy to power a city of 150,000 inhabitants.

Company presentation
Installed in Portugal in 1965, Celulose Billerud SARL emerged as an initiative of Billerud AB, a Swedish company related to one of the former and largest Portuguese industrial groups, the Companhia União Fabril (CUF). The company started in 1967, with the production of soluble pulp destined to the manufacture of textile fibers, with 80 000 tonnes as full capacity. In June 2006, the Altri Group entered into an agreement that lead to the acquisition of 100% of the voting rights of the organization, and the deal was completed in August 2006.
Currently, the company is called Celulose Beira Industrial SA - Celbi, belonging to the ALTRI group, dedicating itself to the production of short fiber pulp, of high quality, from Eucalyptus, suitable for the production of certain types of paper and cardboard, having at the moment 235 employees.
Today, the company is a worldwide reference in the production of eucalyptus pulp, being one of the most efficient producers in Europe (production in closed process, ecologically and environmentally balanced), with an annual production capacity of about 700,000 tons.
Celbi is part of the Altri Group, where Caima and Celtejo also belong to, being producers of bleached eucalyptus pulp as well, with a nominal annual production of about 1 million tons.
Altri is listed on the Lisbon Stock Exchange (Euronext Lisbon) since March 2005, which holds its main stock market index, PSI20.
The company has 205.131.672 shares that were admitted into quotation in March 2005.
To the three factories of paper pulp, we add the Forest Altri and EDP Bioeléctrica.
And being forest management a central activity of Altri, which manages more than 84 thousand hectares of certified forest in Portugal, the wood self-sufficiency is around 30%.
In order to optimize the forest management, the Group acquired 50% of Bioeléctrica EDP (in partnership with EDP), a company dedicated to the production of electricity through biomass.
In recent years, Altri invested more than 500 million euros in Celbi, on behalf of C09 and C15 projects, resulting in a double capacity of the production of the plant and a significant increase in its efficiency and competitiveness.

Leirosa beach cleaner and a stronger neighborhood
About 200 people, including children and adults, accepted the invitation of Celbi and got down to work to leave the Leirosa Beach sand cleaner. The initiative, completed with a social lunch and entertainment, was a success to be repeated.
In the morning of last Saturday, 13th June, Celbi promoted a cleaning action at Leirosa Beach, together in partnership with Marinha das Ondas Popular Recreation Center – Leirosa Beach (CRPMO), the Marinha das Ondas Scouts Group and with the support of the Marinha das Ondas Parish. The day began with words of encouragement and gratitude of Carlos VanZeller, Celbi administator. "Thank you for joining Celbi on this day dedicated to caring for the environment and the future of all," he said, also stressing the importance of initiatives that strengthen good neighbourly relations between the industrial unit labouring during 50 years until now in Leirosa and its human community. Much younger than Celbi were the children who joyfully competed in the litter collection from the beach sand, filling two industrial containers. "It was fun, I had never participated in a beach cleanup, but I would like to do this again," said Bernardo Pedrosa, 10 years old, in the late morning. "I'm tired, but it was worth it to see the beach so clean," said, in turn, Beatriz Pata, 14 "I got mostly fish traps, but also some litter that people leave" regretted João Mateus, 12, who attended the action because he learned "that it would be fun." The many young participants were side by side with parents and other adults, including several fishermen of the Xávega Art, so they could help to collect some waste from their activity, lost at sea and by the sea returned.
"Just look at these children, so happy to be here, to clean up the beach, to realize that they will never put litter on the floor, that they will never leave litter in the sand." said, satisfied, Rodrigues Nada, president of Marinha das Ondas Parish Council. The conviction is shared by Celia Marques, head of the Scouts Group 1224 of the same parish, attended by dozens of children and young people of Leirosa. "We have cleaned the beach for nearly two decades to draw the attention of our members to the importance of preserving the beaches, and this year we were invited to work together with Celbi, which has supported us when we requested, making this an event even greater, "he explained. With the beach cleaned, the party was then made in CRPMO, in Leirosa Beach. For the chairwoman of the board, Paula Ramos, this was another opportunity to strengthen the good relations between Celbi and the local community. "The good relationship is old, and has been deepened with Celbi to support several activities and improvements in the community," acknowledges the chairwoman. "This is the closest community to the plant, and it is natural that it is also the most benefited, but we are very glad that these initiatives allow Celbi administration to know and understand where the sponsors they grant us are applied," she concluded. The Association, which prepared and hosted the social lunch and afternoon party - with inflatables and the atelier "Paper mill" for the youngest, and also performances of the Leirosa Beach Group of Children's Folk Dancers and the band Sombras - received in this special day, a donation of €500, equal to the amount delivered to the Scouts group. As for the Parish Council, there are projects that will have the usual support of Celbi, but Rodrigues Nada did not resist to launch a new challenge. "Later this summer, it would be good to make again such an initiative, but instead to clean the fountains and drinking fountains of the parish," he suggested.
"Open Day" with wood suppliers

Under the slogan "Together on the right track", about 200 wood suppliers of Celulose Beira Industrial, Celbi SA, from different regions of the country, were on Saturday, 30th May, in Figueira da Foz, for an 'Open Day "promoted by the leading company in the production of short-fiber pulp in Portugal.
The day began with a reception of the invited partners who, after a welcome breakfast, could watch the film, produced to mark the 50th anniversary of Celbi and which gives people the reality of the company that, worldwide, it is an example of effectiveness and efficiency, putting already nearly 700 thousand tons per year in the European market of paper companies that produce from fine papers to tissue.
"Just by itself Celbi acquires annually more than a hundred million euros of eucalyptus.” stressed Borges de Oliveira, the Altri Group administrator. "It is essential for us to have a stable relationship and commitment to our suppliers and, through them, also with forest producers” he added. "Today, they have the opportunity to visit the best pulp mill for paper in the world. Not the biggest, but the best because it has the lowest consumption of water and energy per ton of pulp produced, and is at the level of excellence in all the indicators used in the analysis of the sector mills”, he explained, launching a new challenge to the wood suppliers. "If there is an indicator in which we can still improve, it is on the wood consumption per ton of pulp produced," he said. To do this, Celbi urged its supplier partners to further bet on the most profitable type of wood for the production of short-fiber pulp, the eucalyptus globulus, and to early avoid cutting down trees.
Following this challenge, Miguel Silveira, Altri Florestal administrator, announced the creation of a freephone, available to the producers and suppliers of wood, in order to, not only to streamline the business relationship, but also contribute to improve the entire process, either through access to improved plants grown in the greenhouses of Celbi or, for example, in the support of applications for modernization of equipment or certification procedures under the Community support framework Portugal 20/20.
The day continued with a visit to the factory facilities - improved in recent years, since the acquisition of Celbi by the Altri Group, with sequential investments around one billion euros - guided by staff who explained the whole process of transformation of the raw material provided by its partners into the final product.
To conclude this Open Day, Celbi provided a social lunch to visitors, many of whom belong, already, to a second generation of wood suppliers of the company based in Figueira da Foz. "And some come with their children, which pleases us greatly, in terms of what it means for stability and a long-lasting relationship and of trust", stressed Carlos VanZeller, administrator of Celbi, which repeated the conviction that" Together on the right track"is more than a slogan, it is a reality with future.
For a future memory of this Open Day, visitors were offered various souvenirs, including the book of the former high-level executive of the company, Manuel Saraiva Santos, entitled "A Indústria da pasta de celulose na história da Figueira da Foz - Celbi 1960-1967" (The Pulp Industry in the History of Figueira da Foz). The work, which marks the 50th anniversary of the company, pays tribute to all those who contributed, throughout these five decades, for the construction and affirmation of a company which is already one of the largest domestic exporters.
When Celbi launched the Foundation Stone
Celebrating five decades, Celbi SA pointed out in a celebration, last Friday, 19th June, the 50 years after the founding moment par excellence: the placement of the first stone.
After making an Open Day for suppliers coming from all over the country, and having joined efforts with local institutions for a teaching and environmental action of cleaning the beach, an open initiative to the neighboring community of Leirosa Beach, Celbi dedicated the fiftieth anniversary of the placement of the foundation stone of the so called Celulose Billerud SARL to its current employees.
In one of the many garden areas of the factory, an enormous cake, juice and champagne accompanied the chorus of Happy Birthday, followed by a lively gathering and sharing of experiences, learnings and memories. Such as Elísio Parracho that, at 60, works for 50 years in Celbi. "I started working at Celbi as a water carrier, at 11 years old, when the factory had a few months of labouring", he reminded to his colleagues. "In the first day, I came barefoot, in the second with borrowed shoes and in the third, my mother had already bought me some shoes," he confided.
The oldest employee of Celbi still working reviewed the studies he had done, the opportunities that came up and the life he chose, and still chooses, to work in the factory, now in the administrative department. At the other end of the timeline is, José Oliveira, a mechanical engineer admitted just two weeks ago by the company, as a draughtsman and designer. "My father had worked in Celbi and it was an old dream to come here to work," he said. He managed and now it is one of many examples that inspire trainees who encounter in Celbi a first link between the academic world and the real world of work. This is the case of Carla Duque, 25, a native of Soure, who is going to monitor the energy certification of Celbi during six months. "The traineeship ends in three months and I know that, if I leave, I will miss this," she confides, highlighting "the good atmosphere and the generosity of older colleagues" as an important part of her experience.
Throughout the day, a newspaper street vendor, such as those that for half a century sold daily and weekly newspapers, distributed copies of the "Primeira Pedra" (Foundation stone), a newspaper with a single commemorative edition of the 50th anniversary of Celbi. With a circulation of 1000 copies, which will also be offered to nearly 250 regional entities, the "Primeira Pedra" recovers the news given to print, in June 1965, by the local press, especially on the 19th June, when the foundation stone was placed under a concrete landmark outwardly dated, along with a small safe. Inside, there were some currencies of that time, to attract success and fortune, and even a parchment – that on this friday was on exhibition - with a message for the future. In it, you can read up the wish that the factory "will be a contribution to the present generation, to the exaltation of the country and for the well-being of all, especially the inhabitants of the district of Coimbra, who will lend their effort through their arms and the light of their intelligence." Fifty years later, the parchment is still valid, the First solid stone and Celbi growing. Congratulations to all, more especially to those employees who have worked in the company over these decades and that will be cherished on the following 10th of July, in an event that is entirely dedicated to them.
Former employees «Reliving Good Times»
In the year that Celbi celebrates five decades, a day was dedicated to those who contributed to the success of what is one of the most efficient companies in its sector worldwide.
On 10th July, the former employees were thus able to remember an important part of their lives, reconnect with friends and colleagues and (re) visit the factory facilities, staying informed of the new investments, a day that was highlighted with an animated social lunch. "Relive Good Times" was the motto launched and accepted by 200 people who have dedicated part of their lives to Celbi.
Gratitude and pride
The welcome was given by Nogueira dos Santos, administrator of Celbi, who thanked the presence of so many former employees, also reserving a friendly word and of recognition to all those who, by the law of life or health reasons, were unable to attend the event. The "50 years of sucess" of Celbi were recalled by the company administrator, who reminded that the “Exame magazine” considered it the best company in the sector of the last 25 years. "It is always good to know that we are not the only ones who consider our company capable of great things, others too," he said. "We have a culture of discipline and a strong orientation for results that justifies being the most efficient company in the world in the production of bleached eucalyptus pulp" he considered. "Each of you had, during your time, the responsibility of maintaining the culture and values of the company, and transmit them to the next generation. And it is our job to accept the great responsibility of, having collected this testimony, dignify it and pass it on to those who will come after us, "he added. Times change, the shareholders have changed, but the company maintains its identity. "We were once a small company in a large group, when the shareholder was a Swedish giant, and now we are a big company in a small Portuguese group, but Celbi continues to develop itself, to grow and earn the trust of shareholders, who thereby continue to invest and maintain the greatness of the company, to which all of you here have already been part of and certainly did your part, and should be proud of it. Celbi is grateful to all "he concluded.
Souvenirs in the first person
Carlos Guerra is 80 years old. He joined Celbi when he was "very young", and there he worked "nearly for 30 years" during which he accumulated "fond memories, of bosses and colleagues," some of who, he confessed, he had "trouble in recognizing them, after a lot of time”. Visibly touched, he said he was "very pleased" to see the company "so modernized and developed."
Francisco Moura has also fond memories of the 34 years he worked in Celbi, and it was with great pleasure that he reunited with old friends and visited the facilities. "Some things are very different, but others I still know well," he guaranteed.
Licínia Gonçalves worked 24 years in Celbi. She began on farms planting eucalyptus, and she was very pleased when she saw a photograph of herself of that time highlighted in the commemorative exhibition of the 50th anniversary of the company. "I was so young ..." she recalled. She was not yet married when she started working for the company in the area of cleanings. "I'm really touched to find so many people I worked with. The factory is enormous, I think I no longer recognize anything. I had not come here for 21 years," she said.
Beatriz Maia was one of her closest friends. She joined Celbi when she was 19 years old, "being pregnant of her first child," and it was there that she worked her "entire life". She raised her children, made friends, built memories. "It's really great to meet these people again, colleagues, bosses, all good people," she said. "I will not visit all because my legs no longer let me walk long distances, but I will definitely go where I can get," she concluded enthusiastically.
Martins da Silva knows by heart the date on which he started working in Celbi, "10th February, 1975, when he was 29 years old." He would work in the same company more than that: 37 years, until May 2012. He began in the manufacturing sector, passed for maintenance and ended his career in the IT department. "I think the strength of Celbi is its philosophy. It is a company that began as being Swedish, then it belonged to a Swedish-Finnish group and is now Portuguese, but it has always retained its philosophy: a future vision based on good teams, not only in management but also at the operational level, and a focus on the development, which allowed it to enter and remain in the forefront of the companies in its sector, without neglecting environmental issues and sustainability in general, " the former employee summed up.
Alice Mano was 18 when she started working in Celbi. It was in 1966 and the young woman still watched the final stage of the construction of the company. "We worked in some pre-fabricated buildings, within what would become the warehouse of the paper pulp," she recalled. A new millennium would still arrive with Alice Mano in Celbi. Then, still at the service of the company, she went to work to the head office, at the time StoraEnso, in London, for five years. "My 39 years as a worker were very good. For me it was a school of life," she guaranteed. "I have always had a lot of good relationships in Celbi with people from all departments, I made good friends and it is with great pleasure that I am reunited with them now," she added. The reasons that lead a company to grow over 50 years, she has no doubts. "A management always very rigorous and planned. Even in troubled times like the 25th of April, we should have been one of the few companies in Portugal that managed to cross those revolutionary times with some stability, "she recalled.”We were considered the 'crown jewel'," she concluded, recognizing "the proud" to be part of the History of Celbi.
Concluding the gathering, Carlos Van Zeller, CEO of Celbi, assured former employees that the company wants to honor its History, continuing to build it daily. Referring to the "impressive transformations in the last six years," with investments of over 400 million euros in the factory demanding a lot "of the entire organization," Carlos Van Zeller praised the entire team that made possible the aim of the whole project: double the production of Celbi. "We had the concern to renew the team, to get more skills, all for the benefit of the company to continue to focus on efficiency, sustainability and growth that makes Celbi not the largest, but one of the best pulp production factories in Europe" he said. "In the early 90s, Celbi was producing in the order of 250,000 tonnes, this year it will produce 700 000 and next year, even more," he exemplified. "We were spending 70 m3 of water per ton of pulp produced, today we are at 18 and our goal is to reach briefly at 15," he added. "This is the philosophy of Celbi: use more and better the resources," he added. With regard to energy, as well as being self-sustainable, Celbi also contributes in the national electric grid with "enough energy to power a city of the size of Coimbra".
"We will continue to grow, but above all to improve. We want to be the best factory in Europe and one of the best in the world, because we believe that it is possible, with the team we have and we will continue to build, by investing in innovation and, of course, in people, especially in the area of Figueira da Foz, and an increasingly strong relationship with the community, "he concluded.
The celebrations of the 50th anniversary of Celbi started off with an exhibition and the launch of the book “A Indústria da pasta de celulose na História da Figueira da Foz – A Celbi 1960 a 1967”, (The Pulp Industry in the History of Figueira da Foz - Celbi 1960-1967), by Manuel Saraiva Santos on 10th March at CAE (Centro de Artes e Espetáculos da Figueira da Foz - Arts and Entertainment Center of Figueira da Foz). This was followed by an Open Day on 30th May for wood suppliers from all over the country; one educational-environmental action to clean Leirosa Beach, in partnership with local institutions, on 13th June, and the commemoration of the fiftieth anniversary of the placement of the foundation stone of what was then called Celulose Billerud SARL, on 19th June, shared with current employees and perpetuated in a commemorative newspaper, "Primeira Pedra".

Environmental responsibility
Celbi has, from the beginning of its activity, awareness of the environmental value of the natural resources it exploits and the environmental impacts it causes. To ensure continuous improvement of its performance, the company has an Environmental Management System (EMS) implemented and certified in accordance with international standards.
Celbi´s EMS plays an important role at all levels of the organization, linking up with all the activities of the company. Responsibilities have been defined and documented for all organizational areas and respective employees.
In this context, all environmental aspects are identified and the respective impacts on all activities are evaluated as well as defined the control measures and associated mitigation. All environmental complaints are properly addressed and, if relevant, incorporated into the existing continuous improvement process.
An effort has been made, over the years, to minimize the consumption of raw materials, of fossil fuels and water. We intend to continue on this path in order to optimize the environmental performance, reducing costs and increasing competitiveness. On the other hand, we have been working in reducing the environmental impact caused by the activities of the Altri mills with the development of actions leading to the decrease in liquid pollutants, atmospheric emissions and waste produced.
THE FIRST IN THE SECTOR
Already in 2012, Celbi received confirmation of certification of its Energy Management System. It is thus, the first company in Portugal and the first in the pulp and paper industry in Europe to have this certification.
ENVIRONMENTAL STATEMENT
Social Responsability
Celbi recognises its responsibility towards the Community and actively participates in the development and support of initiatives and actions put forward by various institutions. This attitude underlines its commitment to create relevant relationships with the local communities. Financial donations and logistic support are the main contributions of the company to valuable projects identified as having a significant impact in the well-being and in the quality of life of the local population.
Celbi builds up other interaction activities with the neighbouring communities. As an example, whenever IT equipment in the company is upgraded and modernised, Celbi gives away computers and consumables to non-profitable institutions in order to stimulate people from all social layers to get acquainted with the new technologies.
The company welcomes and supports all programmes organised by Clube Celbi that promote satisfaction and well-being to Celbi employees. Besides those programmes, Celbi also sponsored a range of activities in the social, cultural, sportive and recreational areas, organised by local and national clubs and local associations.
SOME SUPPORTS:
In 2010, as an example, the company invested 1.6 million euros in the improvement of the road access to Celbi and Leirosa.
Later in 2012, Celbi signed a protocol with the town council of Figueira da Foz and the EPIS - Empresários pela Inclusão Social (Businessmen for Social Inclusion). This protocol aims to implement a network of professional training mediators for the school success in Figueira da Foz, for the students of the 3rd cycle of basic education.
In 2013 Celbi signed a cooperation protocol with Figueira da Foz District Hospital, formalizing a partnership based on social responsibility criteria. The protocol aims to ensure assistance in the field of medical care to the population that uses the Hospital and was materialized by the donation of twenty-one computers and eight monitors by Celbi to the League of Friends of the Hospital, equipment necessary to the operation of the Short-Term Internment Unit of the Emergency Department
Management Systems
Celbi operates permanently in the quest for continuous improvement.
Policies are put into practice using the tools provided by the Management Systems. They are used to establish goals and objectives, assign responsibilities and track the company performance with regard to its environmental and social impacts, health and safety at work and quality of its product.
The performance of the company is regularly assessed, in daily and weekly meetings of the technical staff, in internal and external audits performed in conformity with the international standards.

Critical Success Factors
Celbi operates in a global market, where the main performers of the sector worldwide also act. This means to permanently live in a strong and aggressive environment where competitiveness is the main success factor. In this atmosphere of global challenges, the way companies deal with their human resources is critical for their survival.
In order to give answers to these challenges, Celbi defined a human resources strategy based on the following guidelines:
To prepare an appropriate and efficient organisation capable to face challenges in the future, by providing it with the necessary management tools, namely a Human Resources Management System (Employments and Skills).
To create a culture of performance in the organisation that mobilizes the employees to always exercise an excellent conduct, and that directs them to the pursuit of challenging objectives;
To stimulate the development of employees' skills in order to achieve a greater functional flexibility (structural training), thus preparing them both for the succession plans and for future challenges.
To attract and keep the most competent professionals in order to ensure the excellence of the work and to strengthen the company image.
Professional Training
Since the early 70´s Celbi invested in the technical training of its employees as a key tool to ensure its sustainability. From the 90´s, a special attention has been given to the behavioural and management aspects. Several structured programs were defined according to the different participants.
Training Results
As a result, the company has invested a significant number of hours in training, representing, in 2014, a 2% rate of effort with a total of 7800 hours of training.
Cooperation with Schools and Universities
Celbi has a long tradition of cooperation with schools and universities.
This activity is developed within the framework of its social responsibility.
The policy of granting stages, whether professional or from school curriculum supplement is definitely acquired, with a frequent presence of young people in the company, allowing them a contact with the business reality and that gives the company a vast contact group for future recruitment.
Occupational Health and Safety
In order to create the best working conditions and well-being to all employees, Celbi intensified in the past years the effort to improve issues related to Occupational Health and Safety, namely by:
Creating guidelines for the improvement of the Occupational Health and Safety Management System and its certification in accordance with OHSAS 18001 Standard/NP4397, granted in 2005.
Establishing objectives as to the frequency and severity indexes of accidents in the workplace and absenteeism rates caused by disease and accidents.
Implementing various improvement programmes in the Safety and Occupational Health areas.
In operational terms, the Occupational Health and Safety management in Celbi involves interaction between the Management Systems Department (Safety and Fire Protection Service), the Occupational Health Service and the organisational structure of the company.
The Management System finds its pillars in:
The Health Centre, furnished with modern diagnosis and treatment equipment, has a full-time doctor employed by the company and a team of Practice Nurses.
Appropriate safety facilities with availability of material and equipment for individual and collective protection and for the follow-up of ongoing works.
Availability of technical means and human resources for action in emergencies, namely in personal accidents, fire and other industrial incidents.
Training in specific safety areas according to the employees' job characteristics. This is extended to employees from contractors working in Celbi premises.
Notices of hazards and risks in the mill premises and workplaces which were identified with the participation of the employees themselves.
Publication of safety manuals, standards and procedures as well as other documentation on the subject. These documents are abundantly distributed, internally and externally.
Publication of internal regulations that specify the procedures on the use of alcohol, tobacco and drugs in the workplace.
Implementation of programmes for inspections/surveys on hygiene and safety issues, as well as audits concerning the operation of the Management System.
More recently the project “Safe behaviours” has begun and it aims at the implementation of a complete security culture.

A piece of History
On 8th November, 1969, the first meeting of a group of Celbi employees took place in order to study and decide on the feasibility of creating a Staff´s House being later approved, on 10th January 1970, by the General Assembly of workers, the constitution of the social, cultural, sports and recreational association that would be known as Club Celbi.

Personal Social Health Citizenship
XXXXX is a happy, energetic and imaginative member of the class. She has a circle of very close friends with whom she loves to play with at playtime. XXXXX has enjoyed taking part PHSE sessions and has offered ideas and opinions during discussions.
Learning Behaviour and Attitude
XXXXX always organises her work space and generally has a good attitude towards her learning. She has benefitted from focused support from the Learning Mentor. This has helped her to develop her knowledge and understanding and to apply new skills to her work.
XXXXX tries hard to listen and stay on task and produce the work which is expected of her. She does however, tend to get distracted and lose attention within the lesson. This is mainly due to her desire to catch the attention of her friend who is sitting on another table. She needs to realise that she most focus in the classroom and save her socialising until playtime.
Personal Achievements
XXXXX has made great progress in all areas of the curriculum, particularly in reading. She has a good understanding of the text she is reading and now reads with fluency. She is a very gifted artist and loves to draw pictures in great detail. We have loved listening to XXXXX´s stories about her rats during "Show and Tell". She clearly loves her pets and always has a funny tale to tell us!XXXXX received a special medal for her beautiful 3D Rat "Cool Creation".
XXXXX has enjoyed taking part in the ICT and Kickboxing after school clubs.
Next steps
We have been very sad to learn that XXXXX will be leaving us to return to Portugal to live. We are going to miss her so much but know that she is looking forward to going back home and living with her cousins.
We wish she continued success in her education and hope that she keeps in touch to let us know how she is progressing.

XXXXX is a wonderful artist and draws some lovely pictures. She finds Art and DT lessons absorbing and has produced a detailed Florence Nightingale portrait and a beautiful Robin Hood puppet.
During Spanish lessons, XXXXX speaks fluently and enjoys communicating to the rest of the class.

Personal Social Health Citizenship
XXXXX is a happy, energetic and imaginative member of the class. She has a circle of very close friends with whom she loves to play with at playtime. XXXXX has enjoyed taking part PHSE sessions and has offered ideas and opinions during discussions.
Learning Behaviour and Attitude
XXXXX always organises her work space and generally has a good attitude towards her learning. She has benefitted from focused support from the Learning Mentor. This has helped her to develop her knowledge and understanding and to apply new skills to her work.
XXXXX tries hard to listen and stay on task and produce the work which is expected of her. She does however, tend to get distracted and lose attention within the lesson. This is mainly due to her desire to catch the attention of her friend who is sitting on another table. She needs to realise that she most focus in the classroom and save her socialising until playtime.
Personal Achievements
XXXXX has made great progress in all areas of the curriculum, particularly in reading. She has a good understanding of the text she is reading and now reads with fluency. She is a very gifted artist and loves to draw pictures in great detail. We have loved listening to XXXXX´s stories about her rats during "Show and Tell". She clearly loves her pets and always has a funny tale to tell us!XXXXX received a special medal for her beautiful 3D Rat "Cool Creation".
XXXXX has enjoyed taking part in the ICT and Kickboxing after school clubs.
Next steps
We have been very sad to learn that XXXXX will be leaving us to return to Portugal to live. We are going to miss her so much but know that she is looking forward to going back home and living with her cousins.
We wish she continued success in her education and hope that she keeps in touch to let us know how she is progressing.

I finished my degree in 2006 and I started to work as a private tutor at home and later got a part-time job as a Concert Hall assistant in CAE - Centro de Artes e Espetáculos in Figueira da Foz. I was also a Cashier, Cloakroom assistant and Promotional advertiser at the nightclub Discoteca O Pessidónio, which was a good experience mainly through the contact with the public in general. I then started my own business in Figueira with a rented room for private tuitions and continued in this area till nowadays. However, due to the economic crisis that arose in 2011 here in Portugal, the business fell sharply and I closed the room in 2013. In 2012, I worked as an administrative assistant at Soporcel, for half a month in a holidays substitution, gaining some experience in back office work and in 2013 I began working as an English teacher in Training Courses for Professional Education until nowadays. I have also worked as a Freelancer in the Translation area since I finished my degree. I started to do non-certificated translations and later I began to work in partnership with a Notary to do certificated translations. I am a very responsible, punctual, honest person and I am at ease to communicate with others. I love to work with ITs, special computers and I have a good knowledge of Windows and MS Office. (Not Access though). I also have some knowledge of HTML and I have some experience in building pre-made websites. At present, I am part of a Non-profit association, doing voluntary work, by being its secretary. I have a good knowledge of Portuguese and I have a natural gift to write documents such as letters, press releases, minutes and so on.
