The Blue Board is extremely useful for filtering out undesirable clients (bad/slow payers) - a feature that is only available to full members, but it is worth its weight in gold.

It gives me the opportunity to interrelate with others that are in the same field and exchange ideas and ask questions to a panel of experts which in most occasions give me real-time feedback. ProZ.com can also be considered an excellent channel for getting to know potential clients and establish new working relationships that may significantly increase your chances of consolidating new contracts. It’s a great place to share your knowhow with others while at the same time benefiting yourself from the experience of others. This site is a must for anyone who intends pursuing this line of profession.

Most of my new clients now come from ProZ.com, and I have to say that fine-tuning my profile has generated some pretty good "matches" (clients that are willing to pay my rates for specific subject areas). I think ProZ.com is a great source of new clients and it is also hugely helpful in avoiding bad payers.

I get occasional approaches through my ProZ.com profile, which in itself makes it worthwhile, because one smallish job covers your membership fee. I also use the invoicing feature and free website hosting, so it saves me money in those areas. As others have said the Blue Board is useful and could help you avoid some major headaches. ProZ.com also has a very high rating in Google, so your profile or KudoZ questions you have asked or answered (which will link through to your profile) are likely to come up in web searches, thereby increasing your visibility.
