Unfortunately punctuation, and especially comma usage, is not taught very well in British schools, but this is very helpful. For a more comprehensive guide to comma usage, you may find the Penguin Guide to Punctuation by R. L. Task helpful, made available in full and free of charge by the author & Sussex University.

The rules for punctuation in relative clauses are given in the section entitled Bracketing Commas.
