Hello, I have doubts about how to calculate rates in SDL Trados. Sometimes, agencies, send me rates with statistics, and ask me to agree with them about those price statistics. If my rate per word is: 0,10 USD (source word) They sent me the statistics in the following way: Rate per word: 0,10 USD Words Translation Reps + 100% Match 0,025 Words Translation 95-99% Match 0,03 Words Translation 85-94% Match 0,05 Words... Let's imagine I have a word file, I open it to translate it... and I have to apply the prices of the list below. Rate per word: 0,10 USD Words Translation Reps + 100% Match 0,025 Words Translation 95-99% Match 0,03 Words Translation 85-94% Match 0,05 Words Translation 75-84% Match 0,06 Words Translation 50-74% Match 0,1 How may I configure this in SDL Trados, to let me know the final price of the project? Where is this in the menu? If you could tell me a step by step guide to configure this, I would be grateful. There you will see the cascade options (on the left side) showing... Language Pairs... All Language Pairs... Batch Processing... Batch processing will be highlighted in blue... Then click Finish... When the analysis finish... do not close the window... In Trados, Press on the left side menu (below files) the button REPORTS And then you see the report The report will show the typical grids all the agencies are asking for: 100% 95-99% 85-94% 75-84% 50-74% New It shows segments and words. New, I suspect, is that you have to apply your rate, because there are no repetitions or matches. So if you have 51 words as NEW, then 51 x 0.10 USD = 5,1 USD The thing is, the report do not calculate the price. Or do we have any method to calculate the price, using the report? If not I guess the only way to calculate this is with an Excell? I really would appreciate any help about this. Perhaps someone from SDL is willing to help? ▲ Collapse | | | Piero Intonti Italy Local time: 15:32 Member Italian to English + ...
Hello ! sorry for the delay in replying. That ìs the only rather fast way I know to solve the issue. The alternative, yes, is to save the analysis's report in excel, add a column with the prices and calculate the quote. I think and I hope other colleagues can suggest something simpler. Regards. The simplest way that I know, and which I am using all the time, is to create a price template in Excel where the price is calculated for each fuzzy category. Then when I create the analysis report in Studio, I just copy the column with no. of words in the equivalent column in my Excel template. Works quite nicely for me, and doesn't really take that much time. Roy | | |
Shouldn't there be a way to do this in SDL simply? I haven't explored it yet, (on my list of things to do) but I expected there to be some simple way of calculating that, just as agencies do?

Seems to be the report, do not link the results with the customer. What Trados should need is to create a new customer... And allow there to apply a Grid with the prices... Then, when creating the report, asking us if we want to get a quote for that particular customer, linking the report, with the customer's grid. Sadly, as far as I know, Trados, do not allow this. We have to use a "home-made" Excell. There are several utilities that make this, like TO30000, but you have to pay for them. Here we have a nice article talking about this: https://signsandsymptomsoftranslation.com/2015/03/13/to3000-quote/ I think Trados should allow this, and handle better the customers creation, with their respective quotation grids.

[Edited at 2017-03-01 15:25 GMT] It is true that Studio gives us such a overview (that's why it's often referred to the Trados ladder). But memoQ is one better: Here you can enter a weight factor for each category to see how much work you expect it to involve. For instance: Segment weight no. of words weighted no. of words 100% 20% 150 30 95-99% 30% 500 150 .... No match 100% 2500 2500 Total weighted no. of words: 3000 (Unweighted it could for instance be 4000 word). Price per word, unweighted: USD 0.10. Price for job: 4000 words @ USD 0.10 = USD 400. I prefer to do this in Excel, though, because then my client can see that my price for 100% is USD 3.00, 95-99% is 15.00 … No match is USD 250.00, which makes it easier to agree on the price. But if I want to, I can use the total directly from memoQ if I want. I find that better to see more exactly how much work is remaining, though. Roy | | | DZiW (X) Ukraine English to Russian + ...
