So I'm currently a Plus member, and my membership is close to expiring. I'd like to renew, but as a Standard member, not Plus. And the system doesn't seem to give me that option - it seems I can only renew as a Plus member.

Anyone else run into this glitch?

The store items in the membership page offers automatic membership renewal method by default. For manual methods just click on the purchase button for the membership package that you want in, http://www.proz.com/professional-membership, and then in the "Payment Method" page click on "Other payment methods available" and switch to alternate payment method.

We had same problem some month ago and this was an advice given by proz.com staff member (but at the end we decided to continue as plus member)

Thanks for your reply Kardas. I opted out of automatic renewal a long time ago, when I saw that Plus membership wasn't really useful to me. This is the screen I get when I click on the "manage your membership" link, with no option to change from Plus to Standard package (note that the "Membership type" is not clickable and cannot be changed).

I guess the only option at this point is to let my membership expire and then renew.

Have you tried it? Feb 16, 2018

Just a thought - have you actually tried kicking off that renewal? I'm just thinking that maybe the next screen asks you to confirm exactly what you want to pay for.

You can just purchase the Standard membership option if you do not have an active subscription Feb 16, 2018

Hi Fiona,

As you don't have an automatic subscription going, you can simply select the Standard membership option from https://www.proz.com/professional-membership and purchase at any time. I agree this should be made much clearer from the membership management page, and the option to purchase or change one's subscription type could be added there as well. If you run into further

Submit a support ticket if nothing else works Feb 17, 2018

Hi Fiona,
I was in the same position and ended up submitting a support ticket to downgrade from plus to standard and get a refund for the remaining plus membership.
Pretty sure I lost any benefits/discounts by doing so or maybe this was because I deactivated the auto-renewal, don't really know, hard to tell.

Imo Proz pricing should be more transparent and there should be a clear option to simply choose which membership option you want when purchasing it or renewing.

I did try that, and was given a screen to complete my payment for Plus membership. No option to change.

Absolutely. Jared's suggestion worked, so thank you Jared. However the email I received prompting me to renew my membership did not give me the option to downgrade. I sincerely hope this is just a glitch and will be sorted.

Thank you everyone!

How exactly do you downgrade a membership? Mar 10, 2020

I'm trying to understand what happens if you downgrade and how this is done: If I understand well you start by first canceling the automatic renewal payment and then buying the standard membership. But do you have to wait until the day of renewal or can you do this before your renewal date without the payments overlapping? I know I won't lose my page if I downgrade but do I risk losing it if I wait until after the renewal is due to buy the standard membership?
