Please amend the new display of list of questions and excessive differences in font size Jan 22, 2020

I really dislike the way the list of questions is displayed in the new interface. It's harder and slower to scan the questions and impossible to quickly scan the subjects, as these are no longer in a separate column. If the old interface is discontinued, I shall be drastically reducing how much I consult KudoZ to answer questions, unless columns are reintroduced.

If the old interface is discontinued, I shall be drastically reducing how much I consult KudoZ to answer questions, unless columns are reintroduced.

I've now looked at some actual questions in the new interface and find that is an improvement on the old interface, with exception of the excessive difference in font size between the header and body text. I imagine that font size difference will be particularly problematic on mobile phones or tablets, where reducing the header size so that there's screen space for the body text will make the latter too small to read. I think the new design will probably be particularly hard for anyone with poor eyesight, so it could be considered discriminatory.

Re the new interface for asking questions, I've had a brief look and would note that "Answerers should natively speak the target language" is ridiculously verbose. Surely, a design meant to cater to people using a mobile phone should be shorter and snappier?!

In general, I agree with previous criticisms over wasted space and would like to see less space between lines of text.

Confidence level display Jan 22, 2020

I see that with the new interface the confidence level is displayed both as value and grey dots. I find it redundant and unpleasing to the eye.

I find the overall lack of color compared to the old version quite boring.

Also I agree with many of the issues pointed out by other colleagues so far.

It doesn't work! Jan. 23 Jan 23, 2020

I get an error message on Firefox saying "Request-URI Too Large. The requested URL's length exceeds the capacity limit for this server." (I am trying to ask a question).
Put it back the way it was! Never had this problem before.

Thanks! Can you give me the URL (web address) you are trying to access? Or tell me where you clicked from that caused you to get that message?

I was not trying to access a link. I was trying to post a Kudoz question, Russian to English. It took me as far as "submit question" (or whatever it says), but when I clicked that, I got the error message. Repeatedly. It was a question in Russian, and the URL showing in the error message screen included the usual string of garbage characters that represent Cyrillic text.

I have been asking and answering Kudoz questions for years, so I know very well how to use the (old) system.

24 hours later, I tried it again and it worked. I did not exactly recreate my question, but that shouldn't make any difference.

Thanks for this report. If I have understood you correctly, you entered the first page of info (term, etc.), and then saw the preview page, and then when you tried to (finally) submit the term, there was an error and the term did not get posted.

If you can submit that URL (with the garbage characters), that would be helpful. I'll have the guys try posting terms using Cyrillic characters.

The asking form has been further simplified Jan 24, 2020

The asking form has been simplified further. The main objective is to make it easier to use. We also want to reduce the incidence of standard questions being marked non-pro, and (opinion) overuse of answerer filters.

See: https://www.proz.com/ask

Feedback welcome.

The biggest issue Jan 29, 2020

Actually, the biggest issue is that you do the new interface internally or by IT guys!

INMHO you need to ask a specialized company, website design and user experience features are a different business and we can not approach the question like what we did some 15 years before...

Thank you for this input. We've tried both approaches at ProZ.com and it feels like there are pros and cons to each. Can you tell me more? Where, for example, do you see the "touch" of IT guys? What would you expect to be different if we hired a UI/UX firm?

I work in graphics and whilst I'm not a web designer I do take an interest. For a start I think a firm of visually alert web designers would update the basic UI. For instance I think the cream/yellow and "tealish" green backgrounds with blood-red headings would go. Not easy on the eye.

Any update? Dec 22, 2022

Some 3 years passed and nothing moved, devices change and Proz website dropped features* and is less and less usable on new devices.

I believe, you should do something before the platforme becomes obsolete, if it is not....

* "kudoz leaders" does not appear anymore from kudoz, ProZ Find is not finalized, etc....

Why change what works well? Just for the sake of change? Why don’t you leave the old layout and improve it? As far as I know issues with Kudoz have nothing to do with the layout…

The old design was built for desktop and laptop computers. In many cases it is very difficult or almost impossible to make a design more mobile friendly (i.e. for tablets and cellphones) by simply making a few small tweaks.
