I have been working as a translator for 30 years in English to Turkish language pair. I started my translation career as a dubbing translator, followed by document translation, subtitling translation (+subtitle creation), localization shortly and then proofreading, and editing. Dubbing and subtitling translations are very different compared with document translation. One can be a very skillful and seasoned document translator, and even can be a language professor at a university but when it comes to dubbing translation, most of them change their minds in their very first attempt, and rest of them surrender after wrestling with a movie for one or two weeks, even three or four weeks. For subtitling it is worse. Localization is a whole different story. Proofreading is another level if you can do it right. I worked in all these five main branches of translation for 30 years full-time and gained very valuable experiences from each one. The sequence is completed.
